JOB TITLE: Laboratory Assistant - Science Initiative CASI Facility JOB PURPOSE: Serve as a research assistant in the electron microscopy (EM) facility by supporting sample preparation and assisting with routine tasks essential to daily operations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist with the setup of the electron microscopy (EM) sample preparation laboratory, followed by support in sample preparation and routine daily tasks such as handling liquid nitrogen. SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS: For experienced personnel, additional responsibilities include weekly optical alignment of the transmission electron microscope (TEM). MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The Center for Advanced Scientific Instrumentation (CASI) CASI is a staffed core facility housing state-of-the-art instrumentation that supports analysis of a wide variety of specimens. CASI is dedicated to serving University of Wyoming (UW) faculty, students, and other stakeholders throughout Wyoming and beyond, for both research and educational purposes. Located in the Science Initiative Building (SIB), CASI hosts vibration- and light-sensitive instruments-including multiple confocal light microscopes, a transmission electron microscope (TEM), a focused ion beam-scanning electron microscope (FIB-SEM), and a micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) system-on the first floor. These rooms are specifically engineered to minimize vibrations and are electromagnetically shielded to ensure high-quality imaging. Electron microscopy (EM) sample preparation is conducted in the CASI Showcase on the third floor, which houses an ultramicrotome, spin coater, platinum (Pt) sputter coater, and other essential sample preparation equipment. The core facility provides both sample preparation and imaging services to researchers across the university and to external collaborators.
