Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to either the Overisel Compressor Station, Freedom Compressor Station, Northville Compressor Station, St. Clair Service Center, or Ray Compressor Station.The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

General Summary of Job Responsibilities

TheManager of Engineering - Compression E&ICserves as the asset owner and leads a team of engineers responsible for the power, instrumentation, and controls assets of the compressor station fleet. This role provides technical leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight to ensure the safe, timely, and cost-effective execution of engineering deliverables. The Manager acts as the primary engineering point of contact for compression facility projects, collaborating cross-functionally with internal stakeholders and external partners to align project outcomes with organizational goals. This position is instrumental in driving operational excellence and fostering collaborative stakeholder engagement to deliver measurable impact across the gas delivery system.



The Manager of Engineering oversees the work of the engineering team and serves as a liaison between engineering and upper management, providing regular updates on project status and ensuring alignment on goals, objectives, and priorities. This role works closely with other departments-such as Operations and Marketing-to ensure engineering efforts meet the needs of Consumers Energy. Additionally, the Manager collaborates with other Engineering Managers to develop and implement departmental processes, including training programs for new hires, updates to existing materials, and systems for tracking projects and tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure all engineering activities comply with company policies and procedures
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate the work of employees engaged in the design, development, testing, and production of electrical, electronic, mechanical, and/or software components, systems, and products
  • Review and approve project proposals, plans, and designs to ensure feasibility and alignment with customer requirements and company standards
  • Prepare reports and presentations for senior management, shareholders, and other stakeholders as needed
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry developments to maintain the company's competitive edge
  • Serve as the engineering point of contact for assigned projects, programs, and products
  • Oversee all aspects of assigned engineering projects from initiation through delivery, ensuring adherence to budget, schedule, and technical performance requirements
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external customers, partners, and suppliers
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to engineers, technicians, and support staff
  • Investigate root causes of customer complaints and product failures, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program with four (4) or more years of experience with successful delivery of engineering projects

    • [OR]Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from a non-ABET accredited program plus a Professional Engineering license with four (4) or more years of experience with successful delivery of engineering projects
