POSITION SUMMARY:

Manage the day-to-day production activities of the plant by providing direction and leadership to assigned work group. The Production Supervisor serves as a liaison between plant management and the hourly workforce while ensuring that daily / shift goals related to safety, quality and productivity are consistently met. The Production Supervisor is also accountable for ensuring that their work team is adequately trained and prepared to perform their tasks in a safe and efficient manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:

Safety, Quality, Productivity and Cost Improvement

  • Set and consistently achieve aggressive Continuous Improvement goals in "Key Process indicators (KPI's)
  • Promote safety awareness and compliance
  • Ensures that area safety inspections are completed, incidents are recorded in a timely matter, mandatory safety stand downs are being conducted, and visual present is be maintained at all times in assigned work area for purpose of discouraging poor safety practices.
  • Balances quality, productivity, cost, safety and morale to achieve positive results in all areas. Works continuously to improve in all areas.
  • Manages daily / shift priorities
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of manpower utilization, work procedures and cost control methods, and production rates and operating costs and makes recommendations for improvement to the Production Manager and/or Plant Manager.

Employee Relations

  • Ensures effective employee / team relations. Provides employee coaching and development. Makes employment decisions, Resolves employee issues through problem resolution.
  • Communicates effectively, honestly and timely with team to ensure everyone has the information they need to perform at an optimal level
  • Enforces the Company's plant and safety rules and policies and issues fair and consistent discipline.

Performance Measurement / Management

  • Provide structure, direction and feedback to production team
  • Readily share information and develop the production team by delegating to their strengths
  • Set clear guidelines and expectations for the production team
  • Establish and communicate clear roles and job performance expectations
  • Manage and report on all production KPI's
  • Works with Continuous Improvement personnel to identify, document, communicate, and implement process improvements while improving area housekeeping requirements.

Champion plant and community communications

  • Communicate effectively with all employees on all levels
  • Clearly establish and communicate the vision for the plant
  • Serves as a potential Company's representative or designates a representative from the plant to serve as a representative in all areas related to the business community, the industry, the surrounding community.

Perform other duties as assigned

ATTRIBUTES:

  • Good leader or supervisor experience is desired.
  • Must be capable of working any shift, on-call, overtime, or seven days a week, rotating shifts, if required.
  • Leadership: a demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
  • Must be able to improve working conditions (safety, quality, productivity, cost) and increase subordinates' skills and capabilities
  • Must be able to assist the production manager in improving a system of production control, standard operating procedure, safety, quality control, and performance management
  • Ability to plan and direct the work of hourly personnel and to train and develop an effective workforce and administrate corrective action is a plus
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good public speaking skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects and meeting all required deadlines.
  • Strong sense of urgency in meeting customer needs.
  • Good understanding of environmental, safety and the desire to following all established procedures are required.
  • Must have good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Previous SAP knowledge is a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Must be physically able to perform work assigned.
  • Must be physically capable of accessing all plant locations.
  • Tolerate working outside in severe weather conditions as well as exposure to industrial high temperature, noise and dust.
  • Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.
  • Will be working in an office environment, mining, and mineral processing environment.
  • The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions: Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Metallic Particles.
  • The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing and sitting.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED. AA degree in Business, Finance, Engineering or technical related field or equivalent work experience in the field is desired.

PREFFERED EDUCATION:

  • BS Degree in Business, Finance, Engineering or related field.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 2-4 years of previous project leader or supervisory experience in a heavy union or non-union fast paced manufacturing, construction, and/or mining/mineral processing environment is required.

PREFFERED EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous Team Lead, Foreman, Control Room Operator, QC Technician, Maintenance Planner. Previous internships project experience is a plus. Previous mining/mineral processing experience with a good understanding of production operations or similar manufacturing operation is a plus. Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and/or Safe Quality Feed experience is a plus.
