We are seeking a highly knowledgeable and proactive New Construction Specialist to join our team. This position will play a critical role in shaping and enhancing our construction risk management practices and support structures. The ideal candidate will serve as a subject matter expert (SME), providing technical expertise across underwriting, internal department training, and client engagements. This is a cross-functional role working closely with Corporate Underwriting, business unit teams, and our insured clients in the construction industry. What You'll Do

  • Acts as the subject matter expert and owner for issues relating to loss control, risk management and losses for assigned lines of business within our construction market segment. Reviews result, assist with achievement of business goals, looks for areas of improvement, determines loss reduction opportunities and best practices with risk mitigation.
  • SOP Development & Enhancement: Lead the development and continuous improvement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to risk assessment in the construction market segment. Ensure SOPs reflect current industry standards, emerging risks, and internal best practices.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Act as the in-house SME on construction risk, providing additional guidance to our Safety Services Department, Corporate Underwriting and Regional business unit underwriting teams during liability referrals. Offer insights on unique and complex construction exposures and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Internal Education & Training: Design and deliver internal training programs focused on risk management in the construction industry. Collaborate with L&D and business unit leaders to create customized learning experiences across lines of business (LOBs). Serve as a consultative resource developing educational content such as whitepapers, guides, webinars, and presentations to inform and support clients on risk mitigation strategies and best practices in construction.
  • Utilizes line of business expertise to collaborate on all issues relating to assigned line of business including loss control, product development, underwriting and profitability. As line of business subject matter expert, consult, train, develop and increase line of business loss control skills across the company.
  • Assesses and evaluates the loss control model of the company or a specific group to determine the overall quality of risk management execution. Develops, implements, and maintains loss control standards, policies, procedures, and processes. Interacts with various levels of management to communicate underwriting standards, recommendations, and solutions for continuous process improvements.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned from time to time.
  • Evaluates all loss control guidelines and technical support materials to provide consistent guidelines and tools ensuring consistent execution.

What It Takes

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, construction industry engineering, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in Construction Management, Insurance related Construction specialist and underwriting support, or related fields Role
  • Specialized Certifications - Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS), Chartered Property Casualty (CPCU) or Associate in Risk Management (ARM)
  • Strong knowledge of construction operations, risk assessment methodologies, and industry best practices
  • Knowledge of various construction disciplines, Occupational Safety and Health Standards 1910, Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), NFPA Standards, DOT regulations and familiarity with source material
  • Membership of ASSE and designation as a "Certified Safety Professional" preferred
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work across functions and departments
