The Tax Director will manage the compliance, filing, and accounting for taxes for all entities. This position will manage one direct report and oversee a team of outside tax professionals to meet the company's tax compliance requirements. Responsibilities
- Responsible for the management and review of the Company's federal, state, and local tax returns and compliance and supporting documentation, including but not limited to REIT compliance requirements.
- Assist Management with Federal State and Tax Planning.
- Research relevant and upcoming tax legislation internally with Outside Legal counsel and external tax firm(s) for credits, incentives, and make required changes to processes as determined by law.
- Assist Leadership with Investor Due Diligence and Debt Securitization(s).
- Coordinate review of prepared tax work with outside tax firm(s).
- Prepare and send responses to incoming mail from Federal, State, and local jurisdictions.
- Work with Development and Construction in due diligence efforts for tax planning.
- Responsible for preparation, review, and submittal of supplementary tax returns for the Company including but not limited to sales, use, and property taxes in all required jurisdictions.
- Prepare and maintain accounting for income, property and sales tax.
- Management of the sales and use tax systems/processes, including sales tax exemptions, audits, ensuring all customer invoices include the required taxes and all required use taxes are accrued and paid.
- Lead and Manage audits of federal and state income tax returns and other state and local filings.
- Coordinate review of accounting for income/deferred taxes during financial audits.
- Ensure that appropriate internal controls are in place over accounting for all taxes.
- Maintain accurate financial tax records, including but not limited to- balance sheet account reconciliations, documentation of all paid for taxes and support for any required analysis
- Provide Tax Journal Entries to Accounting for input and approval.
- Perform special projects if required.
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in accounting, tax, or business administration
- Required 5-10 years of experience in Tax and/or Accounting
- Required 3-5 years of experience as a manager or above
- Required 3-5 years of experience in Limited Partnerships and REITT
- Preferred NetSuite/Avalara experience
