Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

As the Child Care Health Consultant, you will provide consultation services to community-based childcare providers in Quality First to promote healthy and safe childcare environments for infants, children, families, and childcare staff.

The Division of Child and Family Health includes Family Health, Women, Infants, and Children, Oral Health, Maternal/Child Health Strategy, and Child Care Nurse/Health Consultants. We Require

  • One year of experience working in one or multiple of the following areas: mental health, oral health, behavioral health, health education, environmental health, and/or emergency management

  • A bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Education, Social Work, Behavioral Health, or a related field

We Also Value

Job Contributions

  • Consults with Child Care providers and makes recommendations to correct health and safety deficiencies or accreditation criteria following best practice standards.

  • Completes a Health and Safety Checklist every two years in alignment with the assessment cycle on all designated Quality First centers and homes, which is used as an assessment tool to address and prioritize areas that need improvement.

  • Collaborates with other team members, such as the Quality First Coaches, to implement the quality improvement plans and Health & Safety Action plans.

  • Interprets state regulations and childcare standards to promote best practices.

  • Assist childcare centers in developing and implementing health and safety policies.

  • Facilitates the development of care plans for children with special health care needs with assistance from Child Care Nurse Consultant.

  • Provides training in multiple areas of health and safety for staff at childcare programs.

  • Guides childcare staff in the prevention of communicable diseases through outbreak recognition, control, and reporting with assistance from Child Care Nurse Consultant.

  • Documents activities and services utilizing the electronic charting system designated by First Things First (FTF)

  • Provides monthly service report to supervisor.

  • Provides community health resources for children, families, and childcare participants (e.g., health screenings, mental health resources, health insurance, and medical homes)

Working Conditions

  • Position requires keeping a flexible work schedule that may include weekends and evenings to accommodate the needs of childcare providers and families

  • Ability to travel to and from job-related locations throughout Maricopa County during a scheduled workday, subject to County policies regarding the use of private vehicles used on County business

  • Valid Arizona driver's license is required upon hire

  • Must complete a Child Care Health Consultant training program within 2 months of hire

  • Must obtain a valid Class I or Class II fingerprint clearance card according to A.R.S. 41-1758.03 and complete a Criminal History Affidavit Class I and Class II, including the information required by A.R.S. 36-883.02

  • Within one month of hire, all employees will be required to provide evidence of immunity or receive immunizations for vaccine-preventable illnesses for any position within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health. Required immunizations include M.M.R. (mumps, measles, and rubella), Tdap (whooping cough and diphtheria), Varicella (chickenpox), and annual influenza. Some positions require a Hepatitis B vaccine and a Tuberculosis test
