Salary Range $54,000-$58,000. This is the expected salary range for this position. The actual salary offered will depend on a candidate's experience and education, and departmental budget.
Job Summary
The Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice at Elmhurst University welcomes applications for a visiting lecturer in sociology and criminal justice, to begin the spring of 2026. Of particular interest are generalist candidates with experience teaching in both sociology and criminal justice, including classes across the undergraduate curriculum. Courses may include introductory courses, Research Methods, and upper-level electives including Juvenile Delinquency and Race and Ethnic Relations.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and service, create an inclusive learning environment for a diverse student body, show the potential for excellence in research, and be committed to public sociology and social justice.Evidence of outstanding teaching or teaching potential is essential.
Essential Functions
  • Responsibilities for this position include course preparation, teaching, grading, and assisting students who have questions or require extra help. Some student advising may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Sociology, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
  • A keen interest in engaging students and fostering their learning.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Sociology or Criminal Justice.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
