JOB OBJECTIVE:
Serves as the organization's subject matter expert on whole-person wellness and applied gerontology. Leads multi-disciplinary, campus-wide team to identify, design, create, deploy, and maintain opportunities, events, and physical spaces that improve each resident's sense of well-being and overall quality of life. Influences all aspects of residential life at Saint John's through formal and informal leadership. Works according to all State/Federal regulations/codes and Saint John's policies, procedures, and practices. Works together with all members of Saint John's community to uphold and further the mission, vision, principles and values of the organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Operations
- Serves as the organization's subject matter expert on all matters related to whole-person wellness and applied gerontology.
- Leads an interdisciplinary team focused on providing scheduled and unscheduled events and opportunities that promote whole-person wellness and quality of life areas including but not limited to:
- Educational, intellectual, artistic, and entertainment programs,
- Spiritual care and chaplaincy programs, and
- Physical fitness and personal training programs.
- Participates in organizational strategic planning and champions initiatives related to whole-person wellness.
- Serves as the primary champion for dementia inclusiveness, including the creation and support of programming for those with cognitive loss and fostering a dementia-friendly organizational culture through training and education.
- Responsible for the process of creating departmental goals, operating budgets, capital budgets and accountable for producing results.
- Assures that all resident rights are always maintained. Reports on any violations or suspected deviations immediately, according to Saint John's policy.
- Promotes and maintains confidentiality of private or sensitive information as outlined in organization policy and procedure.
- Knows and follows existing lines of communication and authority.
- Works tactfully and cooperatively with residents, clients, families, visitors, and staff throughout the organization.
- Engages in ongoing education on research trends and best practices appropriate to work responsibilities. Attends in-services, meetings, applicable resident/employee committees, and seminars as needed or requested and changes schedule to meet the responsibilities of the position.
Team Management
- Supports and maintains a highly competent Life Streams team through approved hiring, performance review, and disciplinary processes. Partners with Human Resources and other leaders to ensure effective recruitment, engagement, and retention practices.
- Supports and mentors' direct reports across all disciplines to facilitate cooperation, calendar coordination/synchronization, teamwork and service excellence.
- Assures employees' development including ongoing training/teaching, mentoring, coaching, performance assessments and including discipline as needed.
- Regularly assesses the LifeStreams team and adjusts as needed to ensure a diverse group of employees capable of meeting resident whole-person wellness objectives and outcomes.
Community Impact/Outreach
- Represents the organization at local, regional, and national levels.
- Attends conferences to learn new information to ensure Saint John's is staying at the cutting edge of whole-person's wellness approaches. Represents organization as a speaker at conferences.
- Serves as key collaborator and leader of Saint John's annual Symposium. Collaborates with volunteers and other employees to design, plan, and host our signature community outreach event showcasing educational opportunities related to applied gerontology and other issues related to elder's quality of life.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, health care administration, gerontology, psychology, or another related field. Post-graduate education and degrees are strongly preferred.
- Must have five years of program management with proven success in directing a key aspect of an organization's mission.
- Must have at least five years of experience supervising employees and managing budgets.
- Must have at least five years of experience developing and implementing varied, participative and well-received wellness-focused programs for elders or adults.
- Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to read, speak and write English fluently.
- Must have excellent computer skills with proficiency and knowledge of Outlook, word processing and the entire Microsoft Office suite.
- Must be highly professional in actions and attire, have excellent customer service skills, be honest and dependable and exhibit a warm, cheerful, caring manner and a desire to work with older adults.
- Must have the ability to adapt to changing organizational needs, work flexible hours to meet programming needs and be "on-call" to handle problems that may arise on other than regular work hours.
