Summary: Plays a pivotal role in keeping facilities and equipment running smoothly during second shift. Work is performed with some latitude for independent judgment. Work is supervised by the Maintenance Director and is reviewed periodically to assure conformity with departmental policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise and coordinate daily maintenance tasks and staff during second shift.
  2. Conduct inspections of rolling stock.
  3. Develop and implement preventive maintenance and service schedules
  4. Assists staff in troubleshooting and resolving mechanical and electrical issues with rolling stock.
  5. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies
  6. Maintain records of repairs, inventory, and maintenance activities
  7. Train and mentor maintenance personnel
  8. Respond promptly to emergency maintenance requests
  9. Uses a variety of materials and shop equipment, such as, forklifts, hand trucks, pallet jacks, computers, etc.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned in the maintenance department.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Strong leadership skills to motivate and supervise staff and delegate effectively.
  2. Experience in conflict resolution to handle disputes among staff and other departments.
  3. Proficiency in maintenance software and tools (RTA a plus).
  4. General knowledge of rolling stock mechanical and electrical systems
  5. Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  6. Ability to read technical manuals
  7. Physical stamina for hands-on tasks
  8. Ability to operate office equipment and machines.
  9. Ability to use computers and Microsoft Office software.
  10. Ability to convey instructions clearly, write reports and discuss technical issues with staff and vendors in English; bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.


Work Environment: Mix of office and hands-on work in garage area and exposes the employee to various fumes and gases from vehicle exhaust, solvents, grease, oils, paint and other chemical hazards and extreme weather conditions while working outside.

Physical Demands: Work involves the regular, and at times sustained, performance of physical tasks such as walking, bending, stooping, and lifting or carrying moderately heavy (20-50 pounds) objects and occasionally very heavy (50 pounds or over) objects.


Mental Demands: Manage multiple maintenance tasks and personal issues simultaneously while remaining calm and effective during emergencies.

Supervision Exercised: Vehicle Technicians and Servicers

Compensable Qualifications: High School Diploma or G.E.D; Associate or Bachelor's Degree preferred. Minimum of five years of vehicle maintenance and/or service experience + two years in a supervisory role or any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the above listed knowledge, skills and abilities.

License/Certification Required: Valid Connecticut drivers' license; and meet the SEAT's driving record Must quality for and pass the certification test on forklift operation within 30 calendar days of appointment. Class B CDL with P Endorsement and Air Brakes within 90 calendar days of appointment.
