Purpose

The McCombs School of Business is seeking a career consultant for our Evening MBA program, which is part of our high-energy, mission-driven working professional career management team. The main focus of this role is to support the Evening MBA student experience through one-on-one coaching, career educational programming, and helping connect students with resources to accelerate their progression.

Responsibilities
  • Career Coaching: Manage and track career management coaching for 125+ working professional MBA students in the Evening MBA Program, including career exploration, personal brand, resumes, interviewing, networking and offer evaluation/negotiations. Career coaching meetings to be held during the weekdays and evenings before class both in-person and virtually.
  • Career Education: Develop and implement current and new educational programming to train students on career management strategies. Teach and present to small and large groups. Research industry best practices in career management program content and delivery, and integrate learnings into curriculum. Explore and define opportunities to implement innovation in content and delivery.
  • Thought Leadership: Build relationships and stay abreast of trends in key industries/sectors important to Evening MBA students. Nurture alumni engagement to support students. Partner proactively with the program team, employer & corporate ecosystem team and prospective employers to generate interest and awareness of Evening MBA students. Facilitate networking and career development of students in the Austin metro area.
  • Career Communication: Lead all direct student communication regarding career programming, deadlines and events. Coordinate with the program office, working professional career consultants, and cross-program career employer team regarding activities and events. Leverage communication tools such as email newsletters, social media, Canvas and PeopleGrove as needed.
  • Recruiting Support: Partner proactively with employer teams to generate interest and awareness of students from all MBA programs and to facilitate hiring, networking, and career development of the students, in particular in the Austin metro area. 5%
  • Marketing & Admissions Support: Market the program to prospective students in Working Professional MBA Admissions events
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in business, education, counseling, or related field (relevant work experience can substitute); minimum of 4 years' work experience in corporate functions (e.g., finance, consulting, marketing, operations) or relevant experience in career coaching/advising, outplacement, recruiting for these industries.
  • Extensive knowledge of MBA level job search skills and recruiting processes.
  • Demonstrated project management abilities, interpersonal skills, professional demeanor and excellence in oral and written presentation skills.
  • Ability to facilitate and teach in an experiential learning environment.
  • Comfort with addressing the emotional needs and stresses of highly motivated business professionals in career transition.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams while maintaining open, consistent, and proactive communication to ensure alignment and project success.
  • Must be able to work some evenings and occasionally travel including overnight travel to Austin throughout the year, including approximately two weeks in August.
  • Required in person work approximately 23 class weekends (Friday afternoon until approximately 8:00 pm and Saturday mornings until approximately 1:30 pm) in Houston Medical Center
  • Comfort with data analysis and insight development.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
  • MBA degree or other relevant graduate degree or 7+ years of relevant industry or functional experience.
  • Prior MBA recruiting, career services, or admissions experience that includes working with Executive or Working Professional MBA programs.
  • Extensive business experience in fields and industries highly sought after by current MBAs.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective rapport with MBA students, alumni, faculty, staff, and recruiters.
  • Familiarity and experience with distance learning methods and technologies.
  • Experience with Canvas and 12Twenty
Salary Range
  • $60,000 + depending on qualifications
Working Conditions
  • May work around standard office conditions with repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
  • Regular evening and weekend hours required; some travel may be required. M-F work hours will flex accordingly.
  • This is an Austin, TX-based full-time position.
