POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Mechanical Designer III plays a key role in the successful execution of projects, focusing primarily on the production of AutoCAD Plant 3D and Revit drawings. The Mechanical Designer III is responsible for producing quality construction documents and coordinating design work with other engineering disciplines. The successful candidate will also be expected to work within a team environment and collaborate with other project team members. The Mechanical Designer - Level III position is an advanced role focused on taking on significant responsibility in design tasks with an emphasis on independent work. This role involves completing design documents for assigned projects, mentoring junior designers, and contributing to project management.

Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Layout and design mechanical systems for assigned projects
  • General Arrangement Drawings
  • P&ID preparation
  • Construction Documents
  • Creation of 3D-models and piping isometric drawings
  • Perform design work on complex and diverse projects, often requiring multiple technologies
  • Coordinate project design with other disciplines
  • Perform accurate design calculations and measurements
  • Conducts construction observations.
  • Sizes and selects components for mechanical systems.
  • Collaborate with others as a CAD and design resource and provide training when assigned
  • Independently perform assigned layout work and Smart 3D Design tasks
  • Train and mentor junior designers
  • Design piping systems independently
  • Conduct field visits and data collection
  • Estimate project hours for own tasks
  • Manage small projects independently
  • Write specifications for review by Engineer of Record
  • Represent the company at project meetings with approval
  • Contribute to flowsheets and P&ID design
  • Perform equipment sizing and selection
  • Coordinate design with all stakeholders
  • Apply advanced mechanical system design principles (chilled water, steam, etc.)
  • Demonstrate proficiency in at least one specialized area: Plumbing Design, Piping Design, HVAC Design, Fire Protection Design, or General Arrangement Design.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • An AAS Degree in design/drafting or equivalent work experience.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without the need for work sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Minimum of 6 years of work experience in mechanical design or related field.
  • Experience in central boiler and/or chiller plants required but will consider one or more of the following:
    • Agribusiness process plants
    • Facility manufacturing
    • Food Manufacturing / Clean Systems
    • Underground tunnel distribution systems
    • Mechanical equipment / skid design.
  • Advanced knowledge of building codes and industry standards.
  • Excellent project management and leadership skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in CAD software, particularly Plant 3D Design (will consider Revit).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Knowledge of computer technology and specific areas of application, including MS Office.
  • Travel: May include up to 10% domestic travel.

Preferred

  • Field experience is desirable.
  • Experience in a consulting and/or construction capacity.
  • Experience in cost estimating and budgeting for mechanical projects

Working Conditions

  • Some work locations will feature the tough terrain typical of construction sites.

Compensation: $40.00-51.00 per hour. The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual qualifications, experience, work location, and education. This position is eligible for an annual bonus.
