Title : Systems Engineer

Duration: 12 Months

Location: San Diego

Summary:

This role is responsible for using broad technical expertise, leadership skills, and product development knowledge to provide systems leadership throughout various phases of the product life cycle. Systems Engineering translates the voice of the customer and stakeholder needs into system and product requirements, identifies potential hazards, and assesses requirements to ensure that the product meets user and business needs. Responsibilities include developing design and process specifications for new hardware and software products, aiding in product verification and validation, and supporting sustaining activities.

The expectation for an Engineer III, Systems Engineer is to regularly serve on smaller project core teams, act as a leader of technical excellence, and participate as an agent for continuous improvement within the Systems Engineering function. The role involves identifying tasks and resources to ensure critical project milestones are met and systems integration activities are identified and completed.

Key Responsibilities




  • Working knowledge of the product development lifecycle



  • Lead system/product-level feasibility and risk assessments



  • Facilitate cross-functional knowledge sharing to resolve in-market and product development issues



  • Coordinate system-level product development and integration



  • Serve as a resource to examine and resolve system behavior issues for on-market products



  • Identify opportunities and drive continuous improvement efforts



  • Apply DFSS best practices to all projects




Qualifications




  • Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering; postgraduate degree desired



  • At least 5 years of related work experience (combination of work experience and advanced degrees)



  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team



  • Ability to lead multi-discipline engineering teams



  • Strong technical background in Systems Engineering, medical device development, or similar



  • Experience with Systems Engineering and requirements management



  • Familiarity with systems integration and testing, system architecture planning and design, Reliability Engineering, Project Management, and Failure Modes Effects Analysis



  • DFSS knowledge and experience, or statistical test design and analysis knowledge, or Critical Parameter Management



  • Excellent communication skills with both interdepartmental and cross-functional teams (Marketing, Clinical Representatives, Software Engineers, Test Engineers, Quality Engineers)



  • Strong writing skills and attention to detail



  • Proven ability to identify opportunities for continuous improvement projects



  • Experience in an agile environment is a plus
