What you will do
- This job consists of performing duties required to plan, lay out, fabricate, assemble, fit, thread, weld complex piping, system components and weld coded, and noncoded pressure vessel assemblies and subassemblies, working with ferrous, nonferrous metals, using conventional difficult positions of mig, tig, manual arc welding and knowledge of ASME code. Duties are required to erect, weld, modify and rig. Work under the specific direction of engineers or technicians on jobs assigned by shift supervision.
How you will do it
- Follow Company provided lock out tag out training
- Working from isometric, pictorial drawings, process sheets, welding symbols, specifications, codes, flow diagrams, models, and instructions.
- Work on floor, guarded platform, ladders or at welding table
- Perform floor erection or fixture assembly of pressure vessels and subassemblies.
- Finish weld to customer and code requirements, welding standards.
- Lay out from center line or make own layout as required to locate all internal, external part details, angular, radial, longitudinal relationships. Lay out, burn out, nut and bolt assembly, fit, adjust, tack stud weld, and weld part details, internal and external components, such as heads, lugs, brackets, baffles, piping, valves, fittings, oil coolers, water boxes, covers, make all connections.
- Adjust welder, select welding rod, replace wore reels using conventional welding.
- Clean, chip dress, rework welds, air arc, gouge out, repair, reweld. Pressure test, repair leaks. May improvise welding fixtures.
- Work at heights more than 12 feet at inside and outside locations.
- Use scale, steel tape, level, combination square set, fixtures, bender, brazing torch, threaded leak detector templates, hand, hand powered tools, guarded platforms, ladders, appropriate welding, and material handling equipment.
- Perform repairs on prototype, pilot, and customer units as needed meeting appropriate weld specifications and visual standards provided by the Company
- Performing facility equipment repairs and maintenance
- Maintain a clean and safe working area
What we look for Required:
- A successful candidate would need to pass the following weld test to be eligible for employment:
- Pipe weld 2" schedule 160 carbon steel 6G position, Open Butt Weld (GTAW - (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) - 70S2 Root) - (SMAW - (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) - 7018 Fill and Cap)
- Pipe weld 6" schedule 40 carbon steel 6G position, Open Butt Weld (SMAW - (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) - 6010 Root) - (SMAW - (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) - 7018 Fill and Cap)
- Pipe fitting and welding to include structural welding, fabrication experience, ability to read blueprints, industrial mechanical skills, and fabrication equipment knowledge.
- Teamwork is essential for success. Welders need to work cooperatively with co-workers, engineering team members, contractors and leadership to facilitate efficiently finishing daily tasks and meeting project goals consistently.
- Critical thinking is a key element to support being successful in this role. Welders are required to address problems when identified and follow through to support resolution, or a corrective action is reached.
- Required knowledge to include the use of shop mathematics, work from prints, specifications, charts, welding symbols, codes, and instructions. Use measuring devices. Certified in required code welding qualifications. Knowledge of weld shop practices, welding machine operations, welding techniques, assembly methods.
- Able to support highly diversified work. Ability to lay out, assemble, and weld the more difficult coded pressure vessel assemblies, and subassemblies. Considerable judgment required to plan, perform, make decisions involving considerable ingenuity, initiative in piping systems.
- Capable of executing instructions outlined in Lab Information Management System.
- Be aware of and understand the Health & Safety Policy. You have the responsibility to incorporate the Health and Safety concepts when carrying out procedures and work tasks. Initiate action to prevent non-compliance with legal or policy requirements. Identify potential hazards and recommend solutions and verify their implementation.
- Be aware of and understand the Environmental Policy. Follow work instructions and procedures to ensure compliance with the policy when they apply to your job responsibilities. Know the significant impacts the campus has on the environment. Know and follow emergency & evacuation procedures.
- Requires moderate physical efforts working continuously with lightweight materials when welding, repairing, and handling materials. Ability to lift up to 50 Lbs.
- Training required: Completion of 120-day training program covering basic safety requirements, knowledge, and technical competencies to support electrical work required in the facility. Additional trainings may be required upon completion of this program.
- Qualifications:
- Minimum of 4 years' experience required.
