About the Role:
To lead and provide Health and Safety (HS) support to US Onshore activities. To create, deliver, and foster the HS strategy, drive consistency, best practices and lessons learned. To build and maintain strong HS culture and lead the way in addressing onshore challenges and opportunities for continuous improvement. To Provide coaching to Woodside employees and Contractor Personnel in Safety leadership, behaviors, and performance, as well as HS principals.
The Onshore HS Manager will directly report to the VP of HSE International Business with a dotted-line report to the Onshore Project Directors, Operations, and Plant Managers or VP. May include any New Energy, Early Developments and Project Scoping (onshore).
Duties & Responsibilities:
Leadership
- Lead the Onshore HS teams to provide HS support aligned to Onshore Projects and Asset strategies and objectives (Key Focus Areas, Improvement Opportunity identification and implementation, Risk Management & Process Safety). Stakeholder management engagement.
- Deliver Woodside's HS vision, strategy and expectations. Build out the Onshore specific vision and strategy, including integration efforts, org structure and resourcing plans for onshore HS activities especially as activity ramps up and / or transitions.
- Ensure consistency across onshore projects and assets while tailoring to specific contractor modes and regulatory frameworks.
- Provide leadership, coaching and guidance as required to Onshore leadership and operational teams to facilitate compliance to Woodside HS processes and the development of an HS culture.
- Lead the way in engaging operations personnel during site visits to foster a culture of care and excellence and encourages the workforce to provide feedback about HS issues and concerns, including improvements and innovation opportunities (Field Leadership).
- Influence and work with Contractors and their leadership team to achieve an effective and safe performance culture.
- Establish, in partnership with stakeholders, strong HS governance routines and reviews of HS systems, processes, procedures, and performance.
- Define leading indicators that represent meaningful operational insights to ensure delivery of optimum HS outcomes.
- Enable effective learnings across the HS organization and foster a culture that communicates learnings to the wider business.
- Provide the tools and resources our people need to be mentally and physically healthy.

HS/Risk
- Through influence and engagement, ensure onshore activities proceed in a safe manner and team members are effectively engaged in HSE.
- Lead the assurance program with participation in relevant activities across US Onshore activity and where required across company activities. This includes processes, tools and resourcing plans.
- Lead the process for reviewing and measuring, and assuring activities as prescribed by Contractor HSE Management Plans.
- Manage the collating, reviewing, and providing appropriate feedback on leading and lagging indicator status and compliance with targets.
- Manage effective incident reporting including alerts and lessons learned bulletins and ICAM findings. Incorporate into sustainable program.
- Facilitate, support, and provide guidance during event investigations on determining root cause and human factors aspects.
- Lead and coordinate HS participation in Risk reviews / HAZIDs, Drive personal safety and process safety excellence.
- Lead and facilitate HSE participation in HAZIDs or risk assessments to ensure HSE risk are understood and mitigated.
- Actively lead and participate in integration activities and projects to support companywide outcomes - WMS Implementation.
- Drive delivery of opportunities of improvement. Create and implement improvement initiatives across US Onshore and Woodside.
- Understand key process safety risks on site and provide guidance on managing risks, maintain appropriate process safety knowledge.
People

- Liaise with the HSE corporate and Subject Matter Experts (SME's) to ensure compliance to corporate standards, and deployment of best practice.
- Build HSE knowledge and capabilities of direct reports and broader Onshore LALNG and BNA leadership team.
- Participate in HSE Culture Improvements to enhance working environment for HSE members and create a sense of ownership and accountability.
- Build capability, people leadership skills with direct reports and broader teams. Actively manage training and development plans.
- Coach and mentor graduates and early careers individuals, developing capability.
Skills & Experience:
- A minimum of 15 years relevant experience in upstream petroleum industry with a strong background working with operational team.
- A fundamental understanding of construction and production operations is a strong preference, Onshore LNG and ammonia experience desired.
- Demonstrated strong and capable leadership skills that have generated successful business outcomes.
- Previous supervisory experience with a general knowledge of developing professionals is required.
- Responsible for managing 15-20 direct reports, including the Safety & Integrity Projects Manager (H&S) and H&S Leads (US Onshore). In addition, there are indirect reports such as Onshore H&S Advisors (US Onshore). Staffing levels may fluctuate depending on the levels and stages of Onshore activity.
- Strong influencing skills. Strong stakeholder engagement/alignment and management skillsets.
- Demonstrated good judgement when approaching complex business and personnel issues.
- Good understanding of the relationship between business, safety, process safety and risk management.
