The School of Arts and Sciences (
SAS) is the largest academic unit at Rutgers University and the center of the undergraduate experience on the Rutgers-New Brunswick campus and is comprised of 41 academic departments spanning the liberal arts.

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Space Planning and Project Manager for the School of Arts and Sciences - Dean's Office. Reporting to the Director of Space Planning & Facilities Management (
SPFM), the Space Planning & Project Manager has primary oversight for the development and implementation of the process by which space in
SAS buildings is allocated and refurbished.
The School of Arts and Sciences (
SAS) has 58 buildings (875,000 square feet) on 4 campuses in New Brunswick and Piscataway. The Office of the Dean is charged with overseeing space planning and project management for the school and providing support and direction to academic departments, programs and institutes in the routine management of their assigned spaces, and in coordinating with Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) on strategic as well as operational maintenance of the physical plant.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Maintains, analyzes and reports building conditions and utilization data, coordinating facilities maintenance, repair, refurbishments, renovation projects, and relocations in conjunction with end users, and assisting SAS and University leadership in planning for new construction.
- Provides resolution to a diverse range of complex problems that may require creativity and resourcefulness.
- Processes management, creates guidelines, and provides highly creative solutions to unusually complex problems.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- A bachelor's degree in planning, public administration, project management, construction management, or a related field and a minimum of 5 years' experience; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Certifications/Licenses |
- Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver's license would be required for this position.
|
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Must have demonstrated experience overseeing multi-use buildings, managing renovation or construction projects, and contributing to space planning efforts.
- Demonstrated knowledge of environmental health and safety regulations, experience with OSHA or other safety/environmental-occupational health regulatory standards.
- Outstanding customer service and able to interface with all clients and constituents internal and external.
- Must show a high level of organization, be a skilled communicator and negotiator, as well as resourceful and resilient in the face of constraints, and be comfortable working independently and taking consequential decisions.
- Excellent computer skills required.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Knowledge of Rutger's systems and 8 years of project management and/or space planning experience, preferably within higher education.

Equipment Utilized |
- Microsoft Office, Adobe suite of products, project management software, work order and asset management software. Familiarity with space management platforms (Archibus preferred).
- University procurement systems, expense management software and GL reporting.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
- Ability to climb up/down stairs.
- Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver's license is required.
- Regular travel to all four RU-NB campuses.
- Must be available some nights, weekends and holidays on occasion as needed.
