Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Telecommunications Analyst I for the Office of Information Technology. Reporting to the Managing Telecommunications Analyst for Network Operations & Architecture (
TDNOA). This is a technical position that performs daily activities within the Rutgers University network operations teams.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Rutgers' regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
- Installs, decommissions, troubleshoots, maintains, and inspects equipment and telecommunications room power systems, including UPS (Uninterruptible Power System), PDU (Power Distribution Unit), data cabling, and supporting components.
- Responds to and resolves urgent and routine service outage escalations.
- Coordinates proactive service improvements with minimal or no service interruptions.
- Receives and responds to assigned service ticket requests, incidents, and problem reports.
- Surveys, supports, and analyzes wired and wireless network infrastructure.
- Performs equipment delivery, transport, removal, securing parts and supplies, and equipment tracking.
- Networks equipment service provisioning, monitoring, and device configuration.
- Updates and maintains procedures, documentation, reports and TDNOA tools and resources.
- Understands and adheres to Rutgers' compliance standards as they appear in RBHS's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field. Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirements.

Certifications/Licenses |
- Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver's license would be required for this position.
|
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Must be able to demonstrate practical telecommunications/networking skills, possess knowledge of the principles and practices of telecommunications/network system planning and have working knowledge of routine local data networking technologies.
- Must be able to work well with peers and senior staff in a team-oriented and cooperative environment.
- Experience working in/with network infrastructure, operations team, NOC or call center environment.
- Demonstrate strong communications, consultative and interpersonal skills, including oral, written and presentation.
- Must have a valid driver's license, mechanical skills, basic computer skills, basic understanding of UPS and PDU equipment, basic understanding of data network cabling, basic electrical and HVAC system knowledge.

- Standing, sitting, walking, talking, or hearing. No special vision requirements.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, stoop, twist, crouch/squat, kneel/crawl, sit and stand.
- The employee is regularly required to use their hands to utilize tools, perform cabling activities, and handle equipment.
- The employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms.
- The employee must occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, and move up to 50 pounds.
- This individual spends time working in office and field environments.
- The office environment is standard with low to moderate noise.
- The field environments vary from site to site and include Telecommunications Rooms, Data Centers, Main Distribution Frame (MDF), and Independent Distribution Frame (IDF) areas.
- Noise in field areas is low -heavy, and temperature and area dimensions vary.
- Travel across and between Rutgers University Campus sites is required.
