Dr. Zhao Zhang's laboratory (ZZ-Lab) in the Department of Pharmacology and Cancer Biology at Duke University School of Medicine is seeking an experienced and motivated Lab Manager. The ideal candidate will coordinate and perform a variety of administrative and technical activities related to budgeting, stocking, experimentation, training, and management of lab resources. Experience with cell culture and animal husbandry is a plus, but is not required. We will consider candidates who are seeking a temporary position (minimum 2 years strongly preferred) but with preference for those interested in the position for long term.

Responsibilities:

• Organize, order, maintain, and update equipment, computer hardware, software, and consumable supplies as needed.
• Provide regularly scheduled data backups to a data server.
• Ensure compliance of the laboratory facility with all relevant institutional regulations regarding laboratory safety and environmental management.
• Assist faculty in preparation of budget projections and recommendations.
• Organize and maintain cell banks for the lab.
• Organize lab events and meeting schedules.
• Maintenance of minimal amounts of animal colonies when necessary.
• Perform routine experiments.
• Training of new lab personnel in lab protocol.
• Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in life sciences
• Prior laboratory and/or management experience to develop and implement biological laboratory exercises and manage overall operations of the laboratory.
• Desire to work in a fast-paced environment both independently and as part of a team.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.

Experience

Work requires two years of research experience. A related master's OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE degree may offset required years of experience on a 1:1 basis, e.g., a two year master's degree in lieu of two years of experience.
