DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Mechanic Intern, you will have the invaluable chance to collaborate closely with experienced mechanics, allowing you to acquire vital skills necessary for success in a variety of automotive tasks. Your role will encompass a range of responsibilities, including conducting general repairs and performing preventative maintenance on both cars and light trucks. You will be involved in essential services such as oil changes and tire rotations, as well as inspecting and replacing brake systems and evaluating suspensions for any necessary repairs. Furthermore, you will gain hands-on experience in diagnosing and repairing air conditioning systems, meticulously documenting all repairs, and comprehending work orders to ensure efficient workflow. Proficiency in utilizing computer diagnostics will also be part of your training. It is imperative to uphold the integrity of tools and equipment by adhering to established protocols for handling, usage, and storage, while consistently ensuring compliance with all departmental policies and procedures.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Work schedule will vary based on agreement between high school and COPA location
  • This internship will run September 2025 to June 2026.
  • If this will be the student's junior year, the option exists for the student to continue through senior year.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Internship Requirements:

  • You must be at least 16 years of age by the internship start date.
  • You must be a junior or senior status for the upcoming 2025 - 2026 high school year
  • Must be enrolled in or completed an approved cooperative vocational, technical, or industrial education curriculum that has prepared the applicant for the duties and description of work described in this posting.

Additional Requirements:
  • Letter of Recommendation: You must attach a Letter of Recommendation from your school's co-op coordinator, career or guidance counselor, or similar designated school professional indicating you meet your school's requirements and are being recommended for this opportunity.
  • By participating in this program, the student and school agree to use the Commonwealth's Training Plan, Statement of Responsibilities, and Student Performance Evaluation. Forms will be provided to the school upon offer and acceptance of this position.
  • Work Permit: Minors will be required to submit their Work Permit upon acceptance of this position.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
