DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Tradesman Helper Intern, you will have the opportunity to assist mechanics while gaining the skills necessary to work safely and efficiently in an automotive garage setting. The student worker will learn the skills needed to do general repairs and maintenance on cars and light trucks, as well as assist with or perform various other repair and maintenance duties. This internship requires the proper use of power, hand, and air tools once knowledge and understanding is demonstrated. You will also learn to conduct necessary cleaning and servicing to the work area, tools, and equipment. Within this role, is it essential to ask questions on any uncertainties or when encountering new issues, in addition to consistently practicing and adhering to safety procedures at all times.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • High school internship for the 2025-2026 school year, running from approximately 09/02/2025 - 06/30/2026.
  • Work schedule will vary based upon the agreement between the high school and the Commonwealth location.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Internship Requirements:

  • You must be at least 16 years of age by the internship start date.
  • You must be a junior or senior currently enrolled in high school for the 2025 - 2026 school year.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must attach a Letter of Recommendation from your school's co-op coordinator, career or guidance counselor, or similar designated school professional indicating you meet your school's requirements and are being recommended for this opportunity.
  • Work Permit: Minors will be required to submit their Work Permit upon acceptance of this position.
  • By participating in this program, the student and school agree to use the Commonwealth's Training Plan, Statement of Responsibilities, and Student Performance Evaluation. Forms will be provided to the student upon acceptance of this position.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
