WBS, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking a Engineer - Environmental Air Quality in our Milwaukee, Wisconsin location. This position currently offers flexibility for a hybrid work arrangement (remote/on-site) with time spent in the Milwaukee office.

The position also requires occasional travel throughout southeast Wisconsin. One must be available to work outside of normal business hours as needed (i.e. weekends and nights).

This position is part of a job family (Engineer, Senior Engineer, and Principal Engineer) where experience will be the determining factor.

Job Summary

The Environmental Engineer is the responsible for all compliance activities related to generating facilities and other combined reporting for the generating fleet. This position tracks Federal and State air quality regulations. Additionally, this position will be the subject matter expert (SME) for our New Source Review (NSR) air permitting program and the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW) process, with a near-term emphasis on supporting our 5-year capital plan.

Job Responsibilities
  • Manage activities and company's position to support local, state and federal legislative and regulatory initiatives.
  • Provide environmental support on medium to large projects. Develop scope, overall technical design and project estimates, issue resolution and resource management.
  • Identify, implement, and maintain key performance and process metrics to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of the environmental processes, procedures, and contractors.
  • Lead the design, decision making and recommendation in environmental program design discussions.
  • Air permitting activities involve:
    • Conduct initial permitting applicability assessments for proposed projects
    • Work with project teams and leadership on permitting strategy and development
    • Assist with data collection and review
    • Participate in project meetings
    • Prepare air permit applications
    • Work with state and federal permitting authorities
    • Review and prepare comments on draft permits and attend public hearings;
    • Assist with preparation of PSCW submittals and participate in the project review and approval process
    • Ensure final permits and related documents are complete and accurate.
  • Compliance activities for our facilities involve:
    • Semiannual and annual compliance reporting
    • Annual compliance certification
    • Annual emission inventory reporting
    • Quarterly excess emission reporting
    • Compliance testing
    • Operating permit and revisions
    • Construction permits
    • DNR audits
    • Annual NSR reporting for major projects
    • Monthly records verification for all permit related records
    • Maintain and update the various compliance plans, including the Malfunction Prevention and Abatement Plan, Fugitive Dust Control Plan, Compliance Assurance Monitoring Plan
  • Analyze and, if required, permit new projects as needed.
  • Support to facility day-to-day compliance and guidance.
  • Member of the Emergency Incident Response Team (EIRT) supporting environmental spill response across the corporation
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • 2+ years relevant engineering experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • 4+ years of air permitting experience
  • Strong technical understanding of government regulations, air quality, or environmental science
  • Excellent computer skills, with working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Pay Range Minimum: $76,932.70

Pay Range Maximum: $152,615.06

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs. At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
