Position description

The School of Social Ecology is seeking an Academic Coordinator to manage and coordinate the educational, public outreach, and communication programs of the Water UCI center. This position plays a variety of roles including sustaining and updating media accounts run by Water UCI through WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, as well as the home-page for the center. These media are used to provide current information regarding Water UCI projects, reports, events, and general water-related news. The Academic Coordinator also serves as liaison between Social Ecology Field Study students and Water UCI projects through coordinating and planning project meetings, managing student work, and ensuring field study students' progress. Correspondence with Water UCI associates and staff, as well as the organization of Water UCI colloquium events.

The Academic Coordinator/Researcher position is a one-year renewable term appointment. Performance in this position is evaluated annually; merit evaluations are held every two years. The appointment will be continued indefinitely, dependent upon positive academic review. The position is a fiscal-year appointment with benefits, including medical insurance, sick and vacation leave.

Program:

The Academic Coordinator will oversee and monitor the Center's educational projects and outreach programs. The candidate will supervise and train undergraduate field study and other interns at research sites and at local schools and coordinate internship responsibilities and monitor intern performance.

Community:

The Academic Coordinator will help develop, maintain and support partnerships between the School of Social Ecology and the various local and regional water agencies, private sector, local, state and federal agency funders, community organizations and other academic institutions that collaborate with, and provide funding for, Water UCI's principal activities through communicating Center activities and initiatives. This will include planning and coordinating sponsored events, and developing and coordinating outreach programs via UC Irvine campus visits and various virtual, remote events.

The Academic Coordinator will serve as the primary source of Center communications by developing and assisting in the production and dissemination of content to local, regional, and national communities on Center events including colloquia, research updates, and other activities.

The candidate will serve as the main contact for audiences of policy-makers, educators, and others interested in the Center's activities and will be responsible for Water UCI's web presence. In this capacity, the candidate will oversee and assist in creating social media, website, and email communications; oversee planning and logistics for our public outreach colloquia; and liaison with Water UCI's external Leadership Board.

Publication:

The Academic Coordinator/Researcher will produce and update annual reports, produce summaries of research projects for public dissemination; and oversee and prepare updates and presentations at workshops, conferences, and formal talks.

QUALIFICATIONS

--Experience developing and managing educational projects.

--Experience in secondary and higher education programming and implementation. Experience in secondary school curriculum development and/or teaching.

--Experience within the UC system, including procedures and policies.
