Job Summary
The Senior Electrical Engineer will conduct field investigations, client interviews, and cost estimates for electrical engineering activities. This position leads the design, development, modification, and evaluation of electrical components and processes while ensuring compliance with technical requirements and industry standards. The role supports Department of Defense and U.S. Air Force projects, specifically the Sentinel program during its Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase.
Major Responsibilities
Level I
- Apply standard electrical engineering methods and procedures for small-scale projects
- Prepare designs, layouts, drawings, and specifications
- Design, develop, modify, and evaluate electrical components and processes
- Assist with conceptual studies, reports, and proposals
- Coordinate tasks with engineering disciplines, client teams, vendors, and contractors
- Support compliance for project and construction management
- Complete documentation and installation/maintenance procedures
- Select components and equipment based on specifications and reliability
Level II
- Plan and conduct independent electrical work for medium-scale projects
- Lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of electrical systems
- Develop conceptual designs, cost estimates, schedules, and staffing plans
- Prepare or oversee estimates, work plans, and performance reporting
- Coordinate approvals with client representatives
- Support preparation of studies, drawings, calculations, specifications, and evaluations
- Mentor junior engineers and collaborate across technical disciplines
- Produce AutoCAD design drawings (single lines, schematics, grounding, panel schedules, etc.)
- Perform power system analysis in ETAP (load flow, short circuit, motor starting, relay coordination, arc flash)
- Conduct equipment sizing calculations (transformers, UPS, batteries, panelboards, protective devices)
- Perform lighting design using AGI 32 and ground grid sizing using ETAP
- Prepare equipment and material specifications using SpecsIntact
- Develop procurement documentation, evaluate supplier proposals, and review vendor submittals
- Coordinate requirements with systems engineering and client stakeholders
Education and Experience Requirements
Level I
- Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience, or 12-14 years of relevant work experience
- U.S. citizenship required
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
Level II
- Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience, or 14-17 years of relevant work experience
- U.S. citizenship required
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience preparing drawings, calculations, and specifications for electrical systems in facilities such as nuclear plants, process facilities, data centers, or utility plants
- Strong knowledge of power systems, load modeling, equipment sizing, and cable sizing
- Broad knowledge of industry codes, standards, and practices
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering software tools
- Ability to resolve design issues independently and collaboratively
- Must have or be able to obtain a security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE), Electrical
- Experience with ISO-9000 or similar QA programs
- Prior Department of Defense project experience
- Proficiency with SmartPlant 3D and ETAP
- Knowledge of Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and Whole Building Design Guide (WBDG)
- Experience developing CSI Masterformat specifications or using SpecsIntact
- Familiarity with related mechanical and process engineering requirements
