Job Summary

The Senior Electrical Designer will plan, develop, and review electrical engineering design work, produce drawings and documentation, and prepare design estimates for projects. This role includes coordinating with clients, facilitating technical discussions, and reviewing key electrical drawings, calculations, and bid summaries. The position requires solving complex technical issues and ensuring all designs comply with applicable codes and standards.

This position is specifically for a SmartPlant 3D Designer who will prepare electrical 3D designs, as well as 2D designs in AutoCAD and SmartSketch, to support new facility infrastructure design for Department of Defense and U.S. Air Force projects. Candidates must demonstrate strong organizational skills, proven problem-solving ability, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Major Responsibilities

  • Lead and guide electrical designers and drafters, including preparation of layouts, study drawings, detailed 2D and 3D CAD models, and construction drawings
  • Develop complete and complex electrical system designs such as conduit, grounding, lighting, and raceway systems with minimal supervision
  • Create detailed scale models and associated construction drawings
  • Prepare or assist with material requisitions and bid evaluations
  • Monitor work for compliance with approved design standards to ensure safety, reliability, and constructability
  • Participate in constructability reviews and design procedure development
  • Conduct jobsite visits as needed to resolve issues and interpret drawings/documents
  • Support design development of electrical systems and equipment by preparing models, drawings, and evaluations per applicable codes, standards, and contract requirements
  • Provide technical support, coaching, and mentoring for junior designers
  • Model electrical rooms, equipment, cable tray, conduit, duct banks, lighting, receptacles, grounding, and lightning protection in SmartPlant 3D
  • Create bills of material and detailed installation drawings using SmartSketch and AutoCAD
  • Perform calculations with AGI 32 for lighting layouts and ETAP for ground grid layouts
  • Assist with coordination of 3D model activities and interference reconciliation across disciplines
  • Support development of material specifications using SpecsIntact
  • Collaborate with systems engineering to verify design and project requirements


Education and Experience Requirements

  • Associate degree, technical certificate in Engineering/CAD, or equivalent experience
  • 7-8 years of experience with degree/certificate, or 9-12 years of relevant experience without
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check


Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong knowledge of NEC codes and NEMA/ANSI/IEEE standards
  • Experience with cable management systems such as SETROUTE
  • Proficiency in SmartPlant 3D, SmartSketch, and AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of SpecsIntact software and material specification development
  • Ability to coordinate with multiple disciplines and resolve design issues
  • Experience producing electrical system drawings for facilities such as industrial plants, data centers, or utility plants
  • Familiarity with ISO-9000 or similar quality assurance programs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Previous project experience with DoD, DoE, USACE, NAVFAC, USAF, or NASA strongly preferred


Project Overview

This role supports the Sentinel Program, which is modernizing the ground-based component of the U.S. nuclear deterrent triad, including intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) systems and launch infrastructure. The project scope includes design and development of new ground infrastructure during the Engineering and Manufacturing Development phase.

Candidates will be part of a team contributing to high-profile government projects that require strict compliance with security, safety, and quality standards.
