Job Summary

The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine is currently seeking a Program Coordinator to join our team of professionals.

Duties include:

  • Coordinates the tracking for each student's curricular research projects and updates the CanvasMed system accordingly including changes and updates to the course syllabus; contractual documents between students, mentors and course officials; Institutional Review Board (IRB) processes, protocols and abstracts; coordination of data analysis requirements; tracking of accomplishment of research steps and theoretical topics; guidelines on appropriate research methodologies; development of tools to monitor accepted research projects; and tools to monitor required target dates for project implementation and completion.
  • Maintains data and databases associated with the Research
  • Scholarship Course (RSC) and research projects.
  • Maintains confidentiality, adheres to required security measures and performs duties with attention to the highest levels of information protection.
  • Coordinates faculty development, maintenance, and communication of guidelines and other documents needed for the research course in general.
  • Coordinates the student body interest in starting curricular research projects.
  • Assists the Principal Investigator (PI) with Institutional Review Board (IRB) related activities and coordination within the division.
  • Assists in following up with student submissions for IRB protocols, including reviewing turned in protocols for completion.
  • Assists the division with clerical tasks as needed.
  • Schedules and monitors student meetings, conducts follow-up regarding next steps including discussions/meetings with topic advisors where appropriate.
  • Provides detailed reports of relevant curricular research projects and develops student plans to expand students research competencies as gaps in their knowledge base are identified.
  • Coordinates with the team on the annual Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM) Research Symposium and assists in the planning and preparation of events (e.g. Townhall meetings) and internal meetings of the division.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed. Omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of office or related experience.

Desired Qualifications

Two years of prior experience with public health surveying or surveillance techniques in an academic setting preferred.

Able to communicate in both English and Spanish preferred.

Prior experience with specialized health data collection tools (QualityMetrics, health literacy assessments, etc) preferred.

Successful completion of FIU's human subjects' certification required within two (2) weeks of being hired.
