GENERAL FUNCTION

The Information Security organization is responsible for safeguarding the bank's digital assets, customer data, and critical infrastructure against evolving cyber threats. These teams work collaboratively to embed security into all business processes and technologies and stand at the ready to protect the bank against emerging threats. By defining and maintaining a strong security posture, the Information Security organization plays a critical role in advancing Fifth Third's mission to be the One Bank people most value and trust.

The Information Security Co-Op will directly support this mission by contributing to the placement team's active security projects and initiatives. Actual deliverables and responsibilities will vary by team and are more clearly defined below.

ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW

The Sec Dev Services squad supports Devops teams by integrating bank security into the devops processes to secure code and infrastructure. This is completed through automation and modernization. The Sec Dev Services Co-Op will be responsible for assisting in these automation and modernization efforts.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support new and ongoing security projects

• Perform assignments and projects as determined by leadership

• Adapt to feedback and work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment

• Build a network of contacts across teams and lines of business

• Consistently adhere to bank policy and security best practices

• Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing

• Demonstrate initiative, curiosity, and a willingness to learn

• Manage time effectively and meet deadlines

• Perform other duties as assigned

• Write scripts to automate Linux server setup

• Use tools like Ansible or Bash for configuration

• Document processes and support system hardening

• Work with other teams to improve security and efficiency

MINIMUM REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based immigration sponsorship now or in the future.

• Current enrollment in accredited undergraduate degree program studying Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or similar relevant field

• Strong academic record with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

• Self-discipline and time management skills, especially in a virtual work setting

• Willingness and ability to learn new tools, technologies, and concepts

• Basic understanding of core information security principles

• Basic Linux knowledge

• Configuration templating (yaml)

• Scripting experience (Bash and Python)

• Good problem-solving and communication

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Relevant internship and/or co-op experience

• Experience with automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform)

• Familiarity with Git and version control

• Understanding of cybersecurity basics
