POSITION SUMMARY
The Heavy Tech II will be responsible for performing vehicle maintenance, troubleshooting diesel and gasoline-power equipment and shop facility duties. Might travel to various shops and locations across the Los Angeles County area.
Pay Range: $35.00
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs automotive advance skill level II, performs vehicles Preventive Maintenance for Diesel and gasoline-powered equipment, troubleshoots electrical, ignition, fuel injection system, charging and air conditioning system
- Performs inspection and repairs of exhaust system, brake system; master cylinder, rotors, and brake-pads. Performs inspection for suspension components: alignment, tires replacement
- Troubleshoot, repair, and replace hydraulic system; PTO, hoses, and hydraulic cylinders, perform maintenance for air brake system and complete electrical installs for emergency lights and siren kits
- Perform quick-fixed maintenance, patch-repair and replace tires, install / replace windshield wipers and light bulbs.
- Perform troubleshooting and repairs for Electric Vehicles (EV) and hybrid models
- Jump-start, park, pick up and deliver County vehicles as needed to any vendor or County facility
- Maintain daily vehicles accountability, parked location, lane, and vehicle status
- Perform on-the-road mobile equipment maintenance to any facility across Los Angeles County as necessary
- Road-testing vehicles on public streets and highways when required and to drive to any of the five shop locations
- Clean, sweep, mop, take out trash in working in bays, and shop common areas
- Ensure the safe handling and storage of chemicals and cleaners used in performing of daily work duties
- Abide by established safety standards to meet local safety policies and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Report to various regional locations as required
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a valid Class C Driver's License
- 5 - 9 years' experience in heavy diesel automotive knowledge required
- Must be able to maintain a safety-minded approach on all work performed
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite
- Effective oral and written communication skills with all levels of the organization
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time and multiple priorities to completion
- Problem solving skills with an analytical thought process
- ASE T4 / Air brakes certified or be willing to obtain withing three months of employment
- "Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification Commission" EVTCC certification preferred
- Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and work in any of the five shop facilities
- California Bar Smog License preferred, but not required
May be required to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to 50 lbs. Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, stretching and bending throughout the workday.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is typically based in one of five busy service maintenance garage environments, may require occasional on-the-road maintenance repairs. Frequent work outside and in inclement weather conditions is required, including heat, cold and humidity. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. Must be willing to wear Personal Protective Equipment as required by established Company Safety Standards. Normal work hours are Monday-Friday 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, however some extended or weekend hours may also be required.
