Job Description

GENERAL PURPOSE

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with senior HR management in supporting the Deer Creek facility. This position carries out responsibilities including, but not limited to: employee relations, partnership with the staff, performance management, and policy implementation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Ensures timely and accurate compliance with all employee and employment related company and plant policies, procedures, and related government regulations and guidelines. Follows established policies, procedures, guidelines, instructions/techniques, safety practices.
  • Develops, interprets, administers, and supports operating policies and procedures in the plant in partnership with management. Coordinates decisions with plant personnel.
  • Will recruit and screen for exempt, non-exempt, and hourly positions. Utilize best recruiting practices to reduce plant turnover and recruiting costs while hiring top talent.
  • Participates in employee orientation, training, benefit reviews, and all onboarding activities for new hires and established personnel.
  • Facilitates and actively participates in management development programs for supervisors and leads. Provides direction for scheduling of other training opportunities within the plant. Recommends additional training programs and participates in the development of same.
  • Assists with the management of employee performance reviews for salaried employees.
  • Administer company policies and procedures pertaining to employee relations, handbook, and corrective actions.
  • Provide support for employee development plans and training initiatives.
  • Assists with the management of the company's employee tuition reimbursement policy including approving and tracking approved courses and curricula.
  • Write, review, and update human resource policies to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal employment laws.
  • Oversee all disciplinary and termination activities for the operation while following company polices.
  • Conduct investigations into employee complaints and recommend solutions and corrective actions per company policies.
  • Participate in audits, compliance testing, and compliance with regulations and company policies.
  • Create reports for HR Manager, GM and others as required, in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Communicates issues effectively and in a timely manner with immediate Manager.
  • Walks the departments daily to better understand workflow and to interact with supervisors and leads. Stays aware and ahead of evolving issues.
  • Discusses and resolves employee/employment issues and matters in a timely and effective manner.
  • Interacts with others in the plant to discuss and resolve issues and concerns.
  • Performs other duties and functions as assigned.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field.
  • Prefer 2 -5 years' experience with progressive HR responsibility in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience leading others and managing results through direct reports, co-workers, and team members.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Computer skills: i.e. able to perform at a minimum of intermediate level Excel spreadsheets, and to continue pursuing higher skill levels in order to increase value to the department and organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks to changing situations and priorities.
  • Proven analytical, problem solving, and process improvement ability.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Able to read, comprehend and interpret documents, such as: safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and to complete all department and/or production documents.
  • Able to understand and apply sound judgment to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Able to deal with and problem solve where there may be several concrete variables or situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Makes sound decisions when general instructions, established methods, and clearly defined precedents indicate action to be taken, but refers unusual situations and issues to supervisors.
  • Willing to work occasional additional hours, weekends as plant demands evolve.
  • Able to communicate effectively with co-workers and others. Expected to speak to groups occasionally (i.e. TOC, QCB meetings, coffee talks, Line Walks, etc.), and lead tours frequently.
  • Able to comply with company policy and procedures, including safety, quality, and attendance.

  • Highly organized, self-motivated individual who can work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment.
  • Proven ability to work hands-on with the team to achieve objectives.
  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs/projects.
