Position in this function performs diagnostic pulmonary function tests. Prepares equipment for use. Collects and evaluates clinical data and quality control data. Acts as a resource for other clinics performing spirometry testing, reviews their data for acceptability, and coordinates processing of their reports. Provides training for providers and designated clinical staff on use of the interpretation system. Set up new PFT operations, upgrades, and installation of new software as needed to include 20 testing stations and one workstation. Work as a liaison between the spirometry software/hardware vendor and Kelsey-Seybold IT departments. Prepare clinical quality control program in collaboration with Pulmonary Function coordinator and RRT supervisor. Maintain oversight of the entire spirometry system in conjunction with the KSC IT department. Reports to Clinic Administrator and Nursing Supervisor.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Obtains pertinent clinical information and performs spirometry and flow-volume loop testing, both pre and post bronchodilators, lung volumes by plethysmography or helium dilution, airway resistance measurements, single breath diffusion and inspiratory and expiratory pressures following departmental guidelines. Performs arterial punctures and blood gases analysis in compliance with CAP and departmental guidelines
  • Provides training and support for satellite clinics and nursing staff
  • Actively involved in coordinating the implementation and management of pulmonary functions systems. Prepares, calibrates, maintains and troubleshoots pulmonary function instruments. Performs quality control, proficiency testing and documents actions accordingly
  • Follows laboratory protocol for performing procedures, soliciting patient cooperation to obtain acceptable results and reviews data to ensure reliable, accurate results are reported. Makes pertinent comments on acceptability and reproducibility of tests. Provides specialized training for providers when needed
  • Maintains test reports and calibration for all systems inclusive of other clinics
  • Provides PFT updates/research for pulmonologist and other physicians as indicated
  • Processes spirometry tests from other clinics, ensuring a timely return to individual clinic of interpreted tests. Reviews data for acceptability and gross errors, communicating with clinics and correcting as necessary prior to physician review. Provides support for clinics by acting as a resource for troubleshooting. Onsite training of personnel as needed
  • Under the direction of the Mohs surgeon, conduct ongoing competency assessments of supplemental staff; coordinate with Nurse supervisor/manager to schedule appropriate rotations to maintain supplemental staff competence

Required Qualifications:



  • H. S. Diploma or GED, 2+ years of college mathematics, physical and biological sciences
  • 3+ years of clinical experience in full range of diagnostic pulmonary function testing
  • Experienced in working with advanced pulmonary function systems


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist/ or Respiratory Therapist. Respiratory Care Practitioner with an Associates/Bachelor's Degree. Information Systems training
  • CPR Certification, Competency re-certification and continuing education as required by licensing agencies. Registered Respiratory Therapist, Registered Cardiopulmonary Function Therapist. Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist or within one year of employment in this position
  • Management/Supervisory experience in pulmonary function laboratories. Experienced in implementation of pulmonary function systems on a local and global level
  • Proficiency in advanced computer applications and spirometry hardware and/or software

The hourly pay for this role will range from $23.41 to $41.83 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
