The University of Wisconsin-Platteville is seeking a Manager of Campus Recreation and Wellness/Pioneer Activity Center (PAC) to join our Athletics and Recreation Department. The manager is responsible for coordinating and promoting the events, services, and offerings of the Pioneer Activity Center facility, which includes a Weight Room/Cardio Fitness Center, Pool, Indoor Running Track, Racquetball Courts, Outdoor Track, four multi-purpose courts, three wooden basketball courts, and an Indoor Walking Track. This position will oversee and perform activities including policy development and enforcement, program development and expansion, participant eligibility, and risk management. In addition, the Manager serves as the intramural and group fitness coordinator.

This is a full-time, 12-month, benefit-eligible position with a starting salary of $45,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Direct all operations of the Pioneer Activity Center (PAC) including staffing, membership promotion and activation, budget, equipment, scheduling, maintenance, repairs, programming, etc.

  • Develop, monitor, and adhere to annual operating budgets. Provide vision and develop short and long term goals and objectives.

  • Purchase and maintain all equipment housed in the PAC and keep in good working order.

  • Collaborate with university entities such as: Athletics, Health & Human Performance Department, Intramurals, Clubs, etc. to promote and accommodate fitness and wellness to the university community.

  • Attend state, regional and national conferences, workshops and certification programs.

  • Assist in the operation of the Williams Fieldhouse. May include night and weekend supervision, and supervision of facility set-up and take-down for all intercollegiate and special events.

  • Prepare and analyze statistical reports, evaluations, participation surveys, and program manuals.

  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, evaluate and supervise all student employees for the PAC, approximately 50 student employees.

  • Coordinate upkeep, maintenance and repair of all areas of the PAC (Pool, Weight Room/Fitness Center, Tracks, Courts, etc.) Develop, schedule and maintain cleaning schedule of the PAC to keep in good condition. Work with Physical Plant and custodians. Coordinate and manage all general public locker rooms, storage areas, restrooms, office space including cleaning and locker and combination lock rentals.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Facility Management, Sports Administration, Recreation or related field.

  • 2 years' experience in athletic or recreation facility operations.

  • 1 year experience supervising students and professional staff.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Ability to work nights and weekends.

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in using computer systems and software for word processing, database management, email and internet.

  • Must be an energetic, proactive and collaborative team player with a passion for supporting students.
