Description

We are hiring a 2026 Materials Management Operations Summer Intern for the summer of 2026. These interns will be fully immersed in the materials management side of manufacturing and operations. The interns will own projects to drive continuous improvement while also learning first-hand the day to day operations involved in scheduling, material planning, warehousing, inventory control, customer disruption management, supply chain management, logistics, etc. These individuals will contribute to Steelcase operations while applying academic learning in REAL LIFE situations and enhance their resumes.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Driving continuous improvement in the manufacturing plants through owning various materials management projects.
  • Learning in depth how materials flow through manufacturing, and the processes to successfully manage.
  • Shadowing material planners, MPO/MRO planners, Production Schedule Coordinators, CASE analysts and Dashboard managers to gain detailed understanding of day to day operations.
  • Shadowing and networking with Steelcase teams outside of manufacturing (Supply Management, Logistics, Order Fulfillment, etc.) to gain deeper knowledge of Steelcase operations.
  • Attending internship events and networking with fellow interns and Steelcase employees.

Your Future Team:

You will be a member of the Planning and Scheduling team in the Kentwood West manufacturing plant. Our focus is to ensure manufacturing is supplied with the necessary materials to run production, while also setting the most efficient manufacturing schedules to follow. While doing so, our team drives continuous improvement initiatives and cost savings analyses.

Who You Are:

Degree Requirements

  • Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at a nationally accredited program.
  • Actively enrolled in a degree seeking program at the time of application and throughout the duration of the internship or co-op position.
  • Preferred majors for this position: Supply Chain Management, Materials Management, Logistics, Business/Operations Management, or related field.
  • Preferred academic standing for this position: December 2026 - May 2027 graduates

Work Authorization/Sponsorship

  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. The company will not offer sponsorships or work visas now or in the future for this role.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Interest in a HANDS ON learning experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Basic proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to articulate clearly
  • Reliable transportation, many of our sites do not have public transportation available
  • Available to be in the office/plant daily - this is not a work from home opportunity

Preferred Skills and Competencies

  • Technical documentation and organizational skills
  • Experience working a team-based environment
  • Leadership experience inside and/or outside the classroom
  • Demonstrated creative problem solving and proactive learning
  • Knowledge of materials management software and tools (SAP, Tableau, Smartsheet, etc.), or willingness to learn these tools.
  • Continuous improvement and growth mindset
