Internship, Analysis Engineer, Vehicle Engineering (Winter/Spring 2026)

Tesla Motors, Inc.
20.00 - 50.00 USD
paid holidays, sick time, 401(k)
United States, California, Fremont
Sep 05, 2025
What to Expect

Consider before submitting an application:

This position is expected to start around January 2026 and continue through the Winter/Spring term (ending approximately May 2026) or continuing into Summer 2026 if available and there is an opportunity to do so. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

Internship Program at Tesla

The Internship Recruiting Team is driven by the passion to recognize and develop emerging talent. Our year-round program places the best students in positions where they will grow technically, professionally, and personally through their experience working closely with their Manager, Mentor, and team. We provide an experience that allows the intern to experience life at Tesla by including them in projects that are critical to their team's success.

Multiple Locations Possible: Palo Alto, CA; Fremont, CA; Other locations within the San Francisco Bay area

About the Team

The Analysis Engineering team at Tesla uses numerical simulation tools across various domains of physics and engineering to assess system performance against safety and performance requirements. We guide product design using a strong grasp of engineering fundamentals supported by sophisticated numerical models, and accelerate the broader engineering team's development process by eliminating rounds of physical prototyping.

What You'll Do

Your application for Analysis Engineering Internship will be considered across all opportunities for the teams listed below. These teams use a variety of numerical simulation tools to support other engineering teams in the design of Tesla's vehicles, factories and energy products.

  • The Crash Structures Analysis team is responsible for ensuring that vehicle structures are designed to safely dissipate the energy and forces involved in crash events. This team focuses on the performance of the body, chassis, closures, and high-voltage battery structures analyzing performance in crash loadcases using structural nonlinear Finite Element (FEA) tools

  • The Durability Analysis team is responsible for ensuring that vehicle structures meet our targets for product quality and longevity. This team's scope extends to nearly every vehicle system, assessing strength, stiffness, modal response, and fatigue life in static and dynamic (time and frequency domain) events. To assess this the team uses a mix of linear and non-linear Finite Element (FEA) tools, alongside specialized tools for fatigue life, multi-body dynamics, and hydrodynamics

  • The Multiphysics team has a wide range of analysis responsibilities across vehicles and factories development, carried out by means of FEA, CFD/CHT, and ray tracing codes. They support vehicle engineering in simulating performance attributes in thermal loads (solar, climatic), water management (wading, rain), and ray tracing (cameras, imagery, A-Surface aesthetics). They also support manufacturing engineering in analyzing production equipment such as paint shops tanks, ovens, and booths processes

What You'll Bring

For structural analysis roles:

  • Strong understanding of structural mechanics, mechanical behavior of materials, dynamics, vibrations, and fatigue

  • Experience using industry standard FEA tools (such as LS-Dyna, Abaqus, or Ansys) is a plus

For thermal/fluid analysis roles:

  • Strong understanding of Computational Fluid Dynamics, Thermal Modeling, Multiphase flows, Conjugate Heat Transfer, Fluid Structure Interaction, and Reacting Flows

  • Background in Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Turbulent Flows, Gas Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Combustion, and Phase Change processes

  • Experience in HV battery design, thermal management, battery cooling technologies, thermal runaway of Li-ion battery cells, battery safety, and energy storage systems

  • Experience with CFD tools (such as ANSYS-FLUENT, STAR CCM+, COMSOL, etc.)

For all roles

  • Currently pursuing a Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Materials Engineering, or a related field

  • A desire to deeply understand problems and explore potential solutions using your fundamental engineering knowledge augmented by numerical analysis tools

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively on challenging problems

  • Excellent written and communication skills

  • Problem solving skills and proven ability to think out of the box
