Description

Provide academic counseling including course and program advisement assistance with college admission and registration processes transfer advisement career decision-making success strategies and referral to campus and community resources. Coordinate assigned area(s) of responsibility.


Description of Essential Functions (critical tasks)

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Provide academic advisement for new readmitting and assigned continuing students including students on academic probation.
  2. Assist students with addressing challenges that are impacting academic success.
  3. Assist students with career/major decision-making.
  4. Refer students to campus and community resources.
  5. Conduct new student orientation.
  6. Be a Lake Land College resource for the community and prospective students.
  7. Act as a curriculum resource for assigned curricula and maintain close working relationships with faculty in assigned divisions.
  8. Maintain communication with assigned colleges and universities regarding transfer processes and requirements.
  9. Conduct/coordinate assigned areas of responsibility.
  10. Train for and teach Strategies for Success courses as assigned.
  11. Assist in data collection and program assessment.
  12. Other related duties as assigned.

Specific Functional Job Requirements

Education Requirements:

  • Master's degree in guidance and counseling or college student personnel services.

Experience Requirements:
  • Prefer community college counseling experience.

Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of educational planning, career guidance resources, counseling methodology, and college student personnel services.

Skills:
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of students and staff; excellent interpersonal, organizational and presentation skills.

Personal Requirements:
  • Strong sense of commitment to the community college philosophy and the continuous process of career and life planning; ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings.
