Handles corporate, transactional and legal matters, as well as Bloomberg Industry Group's data privacy and compliance program.

Primary Responsibilities:

Commercial:

  • Provides practical legal advice on licensing, intellectual property, labor and employment, media and other matters.
  • Assists with the protection, prosecution and/or enforcement of Bloomberg Industry Group's intellectual property and contractual rights.
  • Structures, drafts and negotiates content, technology, vendor and other commercial agreements.
  • Identifies, manages and protects Bloomberg Industry Group against legal risks.
  • Resolves pre-litigation disputes when possible.
  • Develop,s implements and ensures compliance with corporate policies.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other essential duties in accordance with subject matter expertise as assigned.

Privacy and Compliance:

  • Conducts legal analysis of the application of international (e.g, GDPR), federal and state privacy laws and regulations as applied to the company's business lines and subsidiariesand identifies related compliance issues.
  • Develops and supports Data Privacy Program, including corporate policies, operational controls and business processes.
  • Monitors and provides advice on implementation of new privacy and security laws and regulations impacting the company's business.
  • Offers privacy compliance guidance on products and business processes.
  • Drives cross-functional organizational education of risk awareness and proactive risk identification and assessment.

Education and Experience:

  • JD from an ABA accredited law school with outstanding academic credentials and member of a state bar in good standing.
  • Minimum 4 to 8+ years' relevant and applicable experience at a law firm and/or in house legal department. years
  • At least 2+ of prior data privacy experience.
  • In-depth understanding of data privacy regulations, including GDPR, required.
  • Contract negotiation experience; experience with content and IP licensing, including software and technology.
  • Ability to engage in complex legal analyses and communicate in terms understandable to customers, business owners and senior leaders.
