HJF is seeking a Scientific Project Coordinator who will be responsible for developing and supervising research
projects and investigating the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products and problems. This position will also coordinate various administrative functions in support of the CIIG.

This position will be in support of The Center for Immunological Interventions against Gonorrhea (CIIG) at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.



  • Performs complex data analysis and interpretation, verifies and corrects data entry.
  • Performs complex laboratory tests, determinations, and analyses involving multiple procedures and a variety of technical approaches.
  • Develops methods and procedures for experiments and investigations.
  • Writes and assists with experimental results for publication in technical and peer-reviewed journals.
  • Analyzes and prepares reagent and/or assay product documentation. Organizes and procures needed reagents, performs experiments, analyzes data, and documents results.
  • Documents current or new procedures or protocols for sample selection, data collection, data processing, and/or statistical estimation.
  • Mentors, reviews, and supervises junior laboratory staff in the planning, execution, and analysis of experiments.
  • Plan, coordinate and perform all mouse infection experiments.
  • General administrative and scientific support to the Executive Director for the CIIG.
  • Coordinates tele-conferences, meetings and other requirements needed to communicate data and exchange ideas for the Site Principal Investigators.
  • Perform program analysis to determine the progress and performance of the program.
  • Design presentations for talks, meetings, status updates.
  • Animal work (mouse): administer injections (IP& SC), infect, perform bleeds and process biological samples.
  • Analyze bacterial genomic data using various bioinformatics software platforms (predominately Geneious Prime).
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.


Supervisory Responsibilities



  • Assigned Lead: May recommend the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, and starting salaries; provide input on employee performance evaluations.



Education and Experience



  • Master's Degree required. Biology
  • Minimum of 6-8 year's experience required.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Knowledge of extremely complex laboratory procedures.
  • Ability to meet deadlines of projects.
  • Good communication and analytical skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 Public Trust Clearance.

  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment



  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting. It will have the possibility for some scheduled tele-work.


Compensation



  • The annual salary range for this position is $70,000-$80,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
