The Opportunity:

We are looking for a versatile, curious, and energetic Senior Database Engineer to join our team of passionate and dedicated engineers. This role will primarily focus on Distributed SQL database technologies such as ClickHouse and StarRocks.

The Database Engineering team is part of the Platform as a Service (PaaS) group under the Operations and Infrastructure (O&I) division, which delivers operationally excellent open system database infrastructure and services both on premise (private cloud) and in public cloud. We design, engineer and build reliable, scalable, secure, highly available and cost-effective database infrastructure solutions for our product development partners. The team also provides Level 3 database support for any operational issues and serves as the next level escalation for the Database Reliability Engineering team. This is a global team spread across multiple locations in different time zones.

The Work itself:

The work involves designing, implementing, and managing our database systems both on premise and in public cloud environments. Ansible automation scripts for DB provisioning and life cycle management. Build and deploy Infrastructure as Code to manage database instances on public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP. This role involves ensuring high availability, performance, security, and scalability of our databases.

This role is expected to collaborate closely with Product development and other partners in Operations and Infrastructure like Compute, Storage, Network and Middleware Engineering teams.

Essential Functions

  • Design, implement, and manage our database systems both on premise and in public cloud environments
  • Develop and maintain Ansible and Python automation scripts for DB provisioning and life cycle management.
  • Build and deploy Infrastructure as Code to manage database instances on public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Develop and implement robust backup and recovery strategies.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, procedures, and policies.
  • Set up and maintain database monitoring tools to ensure database health and performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database related issues in a timely manner.
  • Provide technical influence and database subject matter expertise, tackling complex problems and identifying innovative solutions
  • Work closely with cross-functional groups including product development, other Infrastructure engineering teams, Cybersecurity and Operations.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

*2 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD, or PhD)

Preferred Qualifications:

*3 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or more than 2 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD)

*Minimum 3 years of experience as Database Engineer with minimum 1.5 years supporting NoSQL or Distributed SQL databases

*Strong understanding of RDBMS, NoSQL and Distributed SQL database concepts and Architecture.

*Strong understanding of various data models e.g. relational, document, key-value, graph

*Good understanding of database physical and logical replications and various high availability solutions.

*Strong scripting skills with Ansible, Python and Terraform

*Experience with public cloud services such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure and Infrastructure as code (IAC)

*UNIX Linux platform skills and understanding of operating system, network, storage and security.

*Understanding and experience with Virtualization and Containerization technologies and cloud-native Architecture

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 100,000.00 to 141,250.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
