Do you love to develop new products? Do you really enjoy taking ideas to reality? Do you love to tackle tough problems? At Steelcase we're looking for a 2026 Product Engineering Summer Intern - Grand Rapids, MI to work with our engineering team to develop new products and solutions.

What You Will Be Doing:

We believe you will appreciate working for a company that values innovation combined with phenomenal resources.We have a major focus on learning by doing. We'll provide you with mentorship through the development and design process with a keen focus on sustainability. This is not a CAD only experience.Our previous students enjoyed the vast number of experiential opportunities ranging fromutilizing our in-house model shop, test lab, to tours of our facilities and visiting suppliers. You'll learn quickly this company offers a diversity of products and materiality.

You will work on projects that provide new value to the company.While you develop a product,you will learn and apply the design thinking process. Some previous interns have even earned their names on patents! You will be exposed to the engineering and development process including:

  • Ideation
  • Concept work
  • Analysis
  • Prototyping
  • Testing

Your Future Team:

You will join one of many product engineering teams relating to furniture, seating, health care, education, etc. Additionally, we believe you will find our product engineering atmosphere mirrors the culture of Steelcase with people who are inclusive, open to questions, hungry for new ideas, respectful, experts in their fields, and kind.We believe you'll appreciate the balance of individual work with cross-functional projects with teams made up of marketing, design, finance and more.

  • Is your mechanical aptitude strong (enjoy creating / building in a hands-on manner)?
  • Do you have experience or desire to learn solid modeling/CAD?

Work Authorization/Sponsorship

  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. The company will not offer sponsorships or work visas now or in the future for this role.

Graduation Requirements

  • Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at a nationally accredited program.
  • Actively enrolled in a degree seeking program at the time of application and throughout the duration of the internship or co-op position.
  • Currently enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering based degree
  • Preferred academic standing for this position: Juniors and Seniors

Preferred Skills and Competencies

  • Demonstrated creative problem solving and proactive learning.
  • Basic proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office
  • Experience with solid modeling (PTC Creo preferred)
  • Experience using statistical tools and concepts (e.g., EXCEL, Minitab, etc....)
  • Experience working in a team-based environment
  • Strong technical documentation and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to articulate clearly.
