Job Description |
The Assistant Director works collaboratively with the Advising, Career and Transfer Services leadership on-site on managing the activities of the Advising, Career and Transfer Services unit, including overseeing direct reports. This is accomplished by managing staff through hiring, training, developing, scheduling, goal setting, and performance evaluations; collaborating with division deans and faculty on communicating information needed to effectively advise students (such as, articulation agreements, transfer information; career research and transfer reports); oversees numerous advising, career and transfer services events and workshops, including assessment of student learning, and student satisfaction; provides statistical data and documentation regarding student completion and assigned advising to leadership; coordinates all activities related to group advising sessions; troubleshooting advising issues with students and their parents/guardians, as necessary; overseeing and evaluating the appropriateness of the advising and career services assessments that are used for students; serving as a campus resource on advising, career and transfer services best practices; communicating and maintaining compliance with academic policies; staying current on all of the leading career and advising assessments, software and other instruments that are used by the students; developing new processes, publications, forms and procedures designed to provide up to date, accurate and timely information.
Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

Required Education |
Master's degree or higher

Required Experience |
- Minimum of three years of related experience including student advising
- Minimum of one year of supervisory experience
|
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities |
- Ability to utilize DegreeWorks, Banner, and BrightSpace
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to leverage technology for academic advising, career services, and student development, including data management and outcome tracking
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Preferred Qualifications |
- Work experience at a community college
- Experience supervising 5 or more direct reports
- Working knowledge of DegreeWorks, Banner, and BrightSpace
- Master's degree or higher in psychology, counseling, human development, higher education or related field
