Primary Description of Work |

Position manages and directs the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (
CALEA) Accreditation program, requiring specialized knowledge of the program and the associated processes and procedures. Position serves as a manager with program authority in the area of assignment. Position oversees all operations and services provided by staff and assist leadership with strategic planning. Responsibilities include planning, organizing and managing daily operations; compliance development; program policy and procedure design and implementation; and associated business functions. Work also includes marketing the program and defining program goals and objectives. Work may include research in the area of assignment and additional duties outside the scope of the program. This will include providing Emergency Management with support in preparing and planning training exercises, updating materials as needed and lending assistance with Emergency Operations Center operational support.
Position manages all departmental budgets and budget reports, travel authorizations and reimbursements, preparing and maintaining purchase orders and invoices, billings, and assist with hiring documentation and other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police.
This position reports directly to the Chief of Police.

Description of Responsibilities and Duties |
-Receives assignments and sets work priorities, coordinating accreditation tasks to meet deadlines in order to assure an efficient workflow throughout the agency.
-Reviews a wide variety of complex and technical issues concerning
CALEA standards and the accreditation process.
-Meets regularly with the Chief of Police, key department members and others to identify needs and report progress on accreditation efforts.
-Identifies and develops new programs, systems, procedures, or equipment specifications for the improvement of agency performance in compliance with applicable accreditation standards.
-Maintain frequent contact with
CALEA staff.
-Attends
CALEA Conferences and local accreditation support network meetings and coordinates attendance of other agency representatives.
-Keeps abreast of the accreditation process, including proposed changes or amendments to the standards, transition policies, or process changes. Evaluates the impact of these changes on the agency.
-Provides accreditation training for agency personnel.
-Provides information to the public and may make presentations to selected university groups.
-Assigns, direct and coordinates accreditation work groups to achieve plans of action, recommendations to the Chief of Police, or complete other accreditation goals.
-Drafts written directives or assigns writing project to achieve accreditation objectives.
-Maintains master and archive files for agency written directives.
-Maintains
CALEA compliance files in PowerDMS.
-Uses and maintains Agency accreditation information in the
CALEA Information Management Reporting System.
-Performs other related work at the direction of the Chief of Police. |
Minimum Qualifications |
Bachelor's degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Preferred Qualifications |
Four year college degree in business administration or criminal justice and considerable experience with the
CALEA accreditation process.
The preferred applicant would have at least 1 year experience working as a
CALEA accreditation compliance program professional; The selected candidate may be required to obtain the
CALEA Accreditation Manager Certificate within 12-16 months. |
