Under the leadership of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Student Success (VPUESS), the Office of Undergraduate Education and Student Success (OUESS) enriches undergraduate education and empowers students to succeed. We engage in collaborative development and delivery of transformative learning experiences, and we continuously pursue initiatives to foster success for all students. The John H. Martinson Honors Program (JMHP) is a unit within the Office of Undergraduate Education and Student Success. Currently, the JMHP includes students selected for their curiosity, creativity, and interest in building a scholarly community across disciplinary boundaries. With the support of a transformative gift, beginning in fall 2026, the JMHP will assume a new strategic role at Georgia Tech and a distinctive identity among premier national honors programs and colleges. Also, in fall 2026, the JMHP will begin to increase the size of its entering class from approximately 5% to an eventual 10% of each entering Georgia Tech class. In advancing its mission, the JMHP enhances the capacity of our highly motivated students and future alumni to advance the Georgia Tech mission of "Progress and Service." In spring 2025, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) approved Georgia Tech's newly developed Leaders in Progress and Service Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). The Leaders in Progress and Service Program (LP&SP) centers on a top priority of the Institute's strategic plan: advancing our mission to develop leaders who advance technology and improve the human condition. The LP&SP will be available as an encouraged option for all Georgia Tech students and, as of fall 2026, an honors version of the LP&SP will become a required component of the JMHP educational experience. JMHP students who complete the LP&SP plus related JMHP credits will earn recognition on the final Georgia Tech transcript for Completion of the John H. Martinson Honors Program. Note on working time:
This position must be available to work standard GT business hours M-F, 8-5 (or 7-4 or 9-6), as well as some evenings as weekends based on student programs and with advanced notice. Job Summary

Provide information and counsel to undergraduate and graduate students within an assigned area regarding their academic pursuits and progress. Prepare and maintain associated student records. Usually concentrate in graduate programs or specialized academic area. May provide work direction to Academic Advisor Is and administrative support staff. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: students, parents and faculty, staff. This position typically will advise and counsel students. This position will supervise: NA.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Meet with students concerning questions and issues regarding various aspects of their academic program. May include questions regarding academic program requirements, registration, permits, overloads, degree petitions, change of major, commencement, curriculum, academic progress, and Institute policy

Job Duty 2 -
Perform reference searches and records access in conjunction with student inquiries.

Job Duty 3 -
Respond to academic administration and faculty requests for assistance in administrative, recruitment or student related matters.

Job Duty 4 -
Prepare assessment reports; maintain student related records, files and databases;

Job Duty 5 -
Review, approve and process curriculum related actions.

Job Duty 6 -
Interact with other academic units in conjunction with joint programs

Job Duty 7 -
May schedule and coordinate student events.

Job Duty 8 -
May provide input to academic unit's planning efforts.

Job Duty 9 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience
Four to five years of job related experience

Other Information

Reporting to the Faculty Director of the John H. Martinson Honors Program (JMHP), the person in this role will serve as the advisor and a point of contact for students in the JMHP. The Academic Advisor II will assist with course selection, helping students identify and select experiential learning opportunities, and degree certification. The Academic Advisor II will also collaborate with other JMHP staff members on recruitment and admissions, programming, and assessment, as needed. More specific job duties are listed below.

  • Additional Job Duties related to the position:
  • Collaborate with the Faculty Director to establish expectations for JMHP advising
  • Meet with students regularly for advising and monitoring of progress
  • Maintain reports on program progression and conduct outreach to students who are falling behind
  • Collaborate with JMHP staff members on new student orientation (FASET)
  • Conduct degree audits and coordinate with the Registrar's Office on degree certification
  • Work closely with the LP&SP Academic Program Manager to coordinate and maintain appropriate consistency in communications and advising across the campus-wide LP&SP and the LP&SP as incorporated in the JMHP educational experience.
  • Provide appropriate advising metrics to JMHP staff for program assessment purposes
  • Collaborate with other JMHP staff and with campus partners on workshops, information sessions, and resources for cohort members
  • Participate in campus committees and organizations (e.g., GTAAN) to build relationships with other advisors
  • Partner with other units within OUESS (e.g., communications, Career Center) to support student success
