Job Summary:

Summary
The Sr. Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist provides environmental health and safety technical support to the Plant through coordination of EHS activities and programs. In this role, you will lead the implementation, execution and maintenance of the environmental, health and safety and process safety management (PSM) systems for the GAF Cedar City Facility. You will be responsible for in-depth understanding and application of safe, compliant operational practices and leading compliance with company policy, work processes, programs and standards.

Position Responsibilities
* Fosters positive safety culture through professional and proactive interactions with employees.
* Subject matter expert that leads the plant EHS program in compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations.
* Partner with Human Resources, Maintenance, Occupational Health Specialists, Engineering and Production ensuring that the business is free from risks to the environment, health and safety.
* Coordinate and provide ongoing EH&S training for all employees. Assist with new employee safety orientation.
* Ensure that GAF EHS measures are embedded on site and that these measures are driving the appropriate behavior. Identify site-specific circumstances requiring changes to the EHS program, and enable the successful implementation at a local level.
* Identify, evaluate, and develop appropriate solutions to control or eliminate risk exposures. Assist site managers in ensuring that all significant risks to health and safety are identified and assessed and that appropriate risk control measures are implemented and maintained.
* Partner with site leadership to ensure that accident and incident investigations are conducted in a timely, effective, and thorough manner to determine root cause and prevention measures.
* Ensure the findings of accident investigations, safety inspections, audits and risk assessments are brought to the attention of leadership and others who may be affected.
* Record & analyze accident and incident records and make recommendations regarding corrective actions, emphasizing pro-active intervention.
* Track and ensure that remedial actions are completed, corrective and preventative actions are executed, and lessons are learned and shared across the business.
* Maintain EH&S tracking reports and provide statistical analysis as required. Ensure all environmental reports are submitted accurately and on time.

* Support on-the-job safety training, planning, delivery and validation. Use data to make recommendations on changes to training programs, SOPs, JSAs, and tools to prevent accidents, and educate and protect employees.
* In conjunction with the Regional EHS Manager & Maintenance Dept, inspect new and existing plant and equipment, as appropriate, to ensure compliance with Health and safety requirements.
* Lead the safety committee and help to coordinate activities, recommendations, and accountability of identified issues. Partner with site management to ensure regular safety committee meetings are held, meeting minutes are brought to the attention of all employees, and actions are implemented.
* Serve as site Emergency Coordinator (attend training as needed)
* Managing Spill and other Emergency Response actions.
* Managing visits and inspections by regulatory agencies * Participating with responses to Regulatory Inspections, NOV's, Citizen Complaints etc.
* Partner with Human Resources & Corporate EHS Manager on Worker's Compensation and applicable FMLA programs in line with company policy.
* Ensure legislative compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Advise management on the compliance status, cost, and technical improvements needed to achieve compliance.
* Provide site leaders with advice and assistance regarding their obligations under new and existing environmental, health and safety regulations.
* Partner with site leadership to ensure they are aware of their specific duties towards employees and non-employees with regards to environmental, health and safety regulations and have identified and provided appropriate training for all employees.
* Conduct periodic environmental, health and safety audits of the business against Corporate Standards and Regulatory guidelines as directed by the Plant Manager and Regional EHS Manager.
* In conjunction with the Plant Manager & Regional EHS Manager, review proposals and conduct pre-commissioning risk assessments for new construction and equipment to identify potential hazards during the design stage and prior to commencement or commissioning.
* Work with GAF plant & EHS colleagues to identify and share best practice and to harmonize policies and procedures.
* Participate in and support GAF Safety and Human Resources initiatives.
* Coordinate with appropriate EH&S analysts, industrial hygienists, consultants, clinics and doctors, engineers, and suppliers related to the EH&S needs of the organization.

Education & Experience Requirements
* Bachelor's degree required; preferably in Environmental, Health & Safety or related field
* At least 5 years of Environmental, Health, and Safety experience (preferably in a manufacturing and distribution environment)
* Strong knowledge of industrial lift operations, respirators, machine guarding, chemical
unload/HAZMAT and other major safety standards
* Knowledge of OSHA standards, OSHAS 18001, and ISO 1400

* Knowledge of manufacturing processes and technologies
* Experience with training and auditing
* Strong leadership skills

General Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must have strong leadership skills to drive plant to a world-class health & safety culture
  • Strong knowledge of MSHA regulatory environment and protocols
  • Strategic and systematic in approach
  • High level of organizational skills
  • Solid knowledge of the management of workers compensation cases and employee care
  • Solid knowledge of Environmental regulations relating to Air Quality, Stormwater, Waste, and Potable Water
  • Effective communicator both verbal and written
  • Skilled at hazard recognition and corrective action
  • Strong accident/incident investigation skills including root cause analysis
  • Champion, drive, and lead safety improvements within the SGI Charmian plant
  • Manage and systemically oversee all plant EHS efforts
  • Champion BBS efforts to eliminate all injuries
  • Champion and lead the plant environmental program to assure 100% compliance with all regulations with permits being maintained and updated.
  • Facilitate all MSHA audits and inspections
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and updated records. Organize all permits, files, and documents
  • Audit plant EHS program/ expectations and MSHA compliance.
  • Develop corrective action plans and follow up until completed and sustained
  • Conduct industrial hygiene sampling, reporting, and compliance. Meet SGI target of of all allowable limits
  • Manages overall plant stormwater efforts. Conducts routine audits of erosion/sedimentation control, structures, and water treatment facilities
  • Develop, implements, and sustains SGI specific Safety & Health policies and training
  • Conducts all plant visits/tours by governmental agencies
  • Conduct accident investigations, develop a response to MSHA citations and challenges to citations if warranted
  • Leads efforts in meeting workers compensation protocols, reporting and claims investigation
  • Manages all resources (safety supervisor and environmental tech) to maximize performance and meet/exceed plant goals and objectives
  • Responsible for budgeting and spending within safety/environmental departments.

Base salary and/or rate of pay ranges listed are exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. Individual compensation offers will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to geographic location, relevant candidate experience and skill, education, and/or qualifications. Base Salary Range: $80,000-$110,000
