HOURLY RATE: $39.36 POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsiblefor managing the overall activities of the pipe fitting departmentassociated with projects at or supported at the shipyard.Department head is considered is responsible for the successful execution of all pipefitter work packages. The Department Head ensures all activities are carried out in accordance with established specifications, budgets and schedules and directs personnel assigned to the department in all phases of planning and execution of assigned production work. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: The role manages approximately 100 craft employees in various skills on multiple vessels and shops while assuring the enforcement of company safety policies regardless of reporting structure. They are accountable for employee training and qualification, ensuring daily maintenance of equipment and upkeep, and other general housekeeping . They may manage multiple supervisors responsible for assigned tasks. They will be required to document corrective actions and conduct performance reviews of staff. Develops the quantity and quality of department labor head count required to successfully accomplish all projects.Ensures subordinates demonstrate the highest standards of professional and ethical behavior, putting the company values and commitments at the forefront of decisions and actions. Promotes cross craft and cross supervision. INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS: The individual will interact with other managers in performance of this role and be required to coordinate scope of work with other company priorities. They may be required to communicate at all levels within the shipyard and will interact with customers on vessels and in meetings. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity. In total 50% normal office environment and 50% of time spent in production areas in shipyard. They must be able to walk to and from job sites. The person must be able to climb inclined stairways and vertical ladders; to enter confined areas and tanks; or review work at heights. The incumbent must be able to frequently bend, squat, crawl, twist and may be required to lift up to 50 pounds. They may be required to work more than 10 hours and weekend work. There may be local travel and out-of-town travel (including air travel) up to 5% of the time with notice.
