The Master of Business Taxation (MBT) program seeks a Reader to assist with grading assignments in MBT 6221: Tax Research, Communications, and Procedures. The Reader will support faculty by evaluating student work for technical accuracy, quality of tax research, and effectiveness of written communication. This position requires a strong technical background in taxation and experience reviewing and editing professional tax memoranda.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and grade student assignments in accordance with established rubrics and faculty guidance.
  • Evaluate the technical accuracy of tax research and the clarity of written communication.
  • Provide constructive and consistent feedback to students.
  • Ensure timely and fair grading aligned with course standards.
  • Collaborate with course faculty to maintain grading consistency and resolve questions.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of student work and course materials.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong technical knowledge of federal income taxation (required).
  • Experience drafting and/or editing tax research memoranda (required).
  • CPA, MBT, JD, LLM in Taxation, or Masters graduate-level coursework in tax research required.
  • Excellent written communication skills and high attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet grading deadlines reliably.
About the Department

The Accounting Department at the Carlson School of Management consists of 10 tenure-track faculty members and nine senior lecturers committed to excellence in teaching and research. The Carlson School Department of Accounting offers a stimulating learning environment with outstanding synergies across paradigms. Students in accounting develop an understanding of accounting in its relationship to other disciplines such as economics, finance, psychology, and sociology. Some of the most respected scholars and researchers in accounting serve as faculty members in our department and for the program. Current faculty research covers such diverse areas as information economics, decision-making processes, market efficiency, security valuation, financial disclosures, and accounting regulations.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $3,000/semester; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
