The Opportunity

In this position, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining Genentech's Managed Care cross-portfolio, cross-segment distribution, access, and pricing contracts, as well as participating in or leading high impact strategies and contracting efforts.

The outputs of this work have direct and meaningful impact on Genentech's P&L, on our ability to compete effectively, and on our ability to maintain patient access. This work requires managed care, pricing, contracting, and distribution expertise, and demonstrable ability to learn complex market and portfolio dynamics on the job.

Specifically, you will be accountable for independently, consistently and effectively:

  • Partnering with and influencing leadership and other stakeholders across the organization;

  • Providing Managed Care Contracts (MCC) expertise and strategic leadership and thought-partnership to account teams and internal partners when considering engagement with an account;

  • Providing Managed Care Contracts (MCC) expertise to ecosystems, National Supply & Care Delivery (NSCD), and National Access Decisions (NAD) account teams to drive out-of-strategy contracting assessments for high priority / high impact products and segments;

  • Creating unique contract solutions autonomously in alignment with access, distribution and pricing strategies, or developing out-of-strategy solutions;

  • Autonomously optimizing managed care contracts, supports the execution of access, distribution and pricing strategies, and collaborates with account teams to recommend and assume accountability for no-contract decisions when appropriate;

  • Possessing a deep understanding of relevant access, distribution and pricing strategies and performing a wide range of strategic and tactical activities to achieve seamless, well integrated pricing, contracting, and distribution strategy implementation;

  • Upskill access and contracting knowledge across ecosystems (leverage deep access and contracting expertise in MCC);

  • Monitoring, evaluating and refining contract language and performance

  • Demonstrating leadership to create and/or enhance contract boilerplates to address cross-portfolio segment and account needs;

  • Partnering with field account teams, Legal, and other internal partners to plan the customer engagement strategy and messaging, contract effectiveness, and contract execution;

  • Accountable for meeting long-term and short-term strategic cross-portfolio goals with measurable impact on patient access and customer experience;

  • Providing strategic leadership and thought partnership when considering cross-portfolio, cross-segment engagement. Partnering with Customer Engagement (CE) leadership including ecosystems, NSCD, and NAD; Legal; Compliance; Regulatory; Policy, Evidence & Access Strategy (PEAS) leadership; Squads; and Marketing to plan the customer engagement strategy and messaging, contract effectiveness, and contract pull-through;

  • Designs and delivers excellent end-to-end customer experiences in partnership with ecosystems (HEDs/HDs), NSCD & NAD account teams; Marketing; Pricing, Contracting, and Distribution (PCD); and Customer Segment Strategy (CSS);

  • Provides leadership to create new boilerplates to address complex and novel cross-portfolio segment and account contracting needs;

  • Proactively identifies possible legal, regulatory, and privacy contract challenges; leads advice seeking and implementation of guidance to ensure compliance with all laws, regulations, and policies;

  • Ensures contract decisions are documented clearly, consistently, and compliantly, as well as captures collaboration with key stakeholders in order to appropriately assess legal and operational risks; and

  • Ensures that every executed agreement supports the account strategy and conforms to contracting decisions approved in the system of record.

Who you are:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required

  • 8 or more years previous and relevant/transferrable work experience (Worked at another Healthcare, Manufacturing, Payer or similar entity/background).

  • Experience in contracting, building trusted customer relationships, in Healthcare

  • Previous contract drafting and negotiation experience

  • Demonstrable knowledge of, or aptitude to learn, current policies and guidelines that affect contracts, pricing, rebates etc. in the managed care environment

  • Excellent partnering and communication skills: works collaboratively, effectively and efficiently with internal and external partners/stakeholders

  • Must demonstrate a high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace

  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding objectives & goals

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA, JD or other related graduate-level degree

  • Related experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry

This position requires a presence at our South San Francisco Genentech Campus;

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, California $139,000/yr to $258,200/yr. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
