Job Description/Preferred Qualifications

Job Responsibilities

As a Laser Manufacturing Engineer, you will play a critical role in the development, optimization, and support of advanced laser and optical systems across manufacturing, new product introduction (NPI), and continuous improvement initiatives. You are at the forefront of developing and refining cutting-edge laser technologies that power next-generation products. Key responsibilities include:

  • Laser Systems Ownership: Lead the design, build, and optimization of laser and optical systems to support manufacturing and product development.
  • Cross-Functional Problem Solving: Partner with the CTO, manufacturing, and field service teams to troubleshoot laser performance issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Precision Engineering: Develop and refine procedures for crystal characterization, laser alignment, system calibration, and qualification to meet performance and cycle time targets.
  • Data-Driven Improvements: Utilize statistical process control and data analysis to enhance yield, process efficiency, and product design.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Investigate manufacturing and field failures, identify root causes, and drive corrective actions.
  • Global Collaboration: Work with international teams to support product transfers, supplier quality initiatives, and cross-functional design objectives.
  • Documentation & Training: Create clear, comprehensive documentation and train technicians to ensure consistent and high-quality processes.
  • Leadership & Facilitation: Lead small cross-functional teams to resolve optics and system-level challenges using structured problem-solving methodologies such as the 7-Step process.
  • Travel: Occasional travel (up to 25%) may be required, both domestically and internationally.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's or advanced degree in Physics, Optical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of laser systems and hands-on experience with laser alignment and optical component qualification.
  • Cleanroom Protocols: Familiarity with DUV optics cleanliness standards and handling procedures.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead root cause investigations and apply structured methodologies (e.g., 7-Step, DOE).
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Preferred Experience: Background in solid-state crystal growth, scanning electron microscope (SEM), characterization, and testing is a plus.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors Degree and minimum of 5 years proven experience or Masters and minimum of 3 years proven experience.

Base Pay Range: $105,300.00 - $179,000.00 Annually Primary Location: USA-CA-Milpitas-KLA KLA's total rewards package for employees may also include participation in performance incentive programs and eligibility for additional benefits including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, life, and other voluntary benefits, 401(K) including company matching, employee stock purchase program (ESPP), student debt assistance, tuition reimbursement program, development and career growth opportunities and programs, financial planning benefits, wellness benefits including an employee assistance program (EAP), paid time off and paid company holidays, and family care and bonding leave.
