Overview

Coborn's Merchandising Team is growing and we are hiring a Planning Manager! As the Planning Manager, you will be responsible for driving financial and operational performance through effective planning, analysis, and execution of merchandising strategies. You will oversee the development and management of budgets, tracks and reports on key performance indicators (KPIs), analyzes sales and market data, and builds business models that guide informed decision-making. By combining strong financial acumen with merchandising insights, the Planning Manager ensures that product, pricing, and promotional decisions align with company objectives, customer needs, and profitability goals.

Duties Include:

Budget Development & Management:

  • Develop, manage, and monitor merchandising budgets across categories, ensuring alignment with corporate financial objectives.
  • Partner with merchandising leaders to set financial targets and allocate resources effectively.
  • Forecast and adjust budgets in response to performance trends, market conditions, and business opportunities.

KPI Tracking & Reporting:

  • Establish, track, and report on merchandising KPIs, including sales, margin, inventory turnover, and promotional effectiveness.
  • Provide timely, actionable insights to merchandising, operations, and leadership teams.
  • Create dashboards and reports that highlight performance, risks, and opportunities.

Data Analysis & Trend Insights:

  • Analyze historical sales, customer behavior, and market trends to identify growth opportunities and potential risks.
  • Support assortment, pricing, and promotional strategies with data-driven recommendations.
  • Conduct post-event analyses to evaluate the effectiveness of merchandising initiatives.

Business Modeling & Scenario Planning:

  • Develop financial models to evaluate new merchandising strategies, product launches, and promotional programs.
  • Use scenario planning to assess potential outcomes and mitigate risk.
  • Partner with finance, supply chain, and operations to align models with organizational capacity and goals.

Decision Support & Strategic Alignment:

  • Provide data-driven recommendations to leadership to guide category planning, pricing, and promotional activities.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, Supply Chain, and Store Operations to ensure alignment of plans.
  • Support long-range strategic planning by contributing insights and financial perspectives.

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Merchandising, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in retail merchandising planning, financial analysis, or category management.
  • Experience in grocery, retail, or consumer goods strongly preferred.
