As a member of RSM's General Counsel's Office, you will assist a team of attorneys supporting RSM's business.

Duties include:

  • Advise on data protection and privacy matters, including management of data incident response planning, analysis and remediation efforts and data governance policy
  • Negotiate technology agreements, including domestic and international licensing agreements, software development agreements, Saas agreements, SLAs, data protection arrangements (including DPAs, BAAs, etc.), proofs of concept and joint venture/collaboration agreements
  • Advise on legal aspects of AI technology, initiatives and strategy
  • Provide counsel to key stakeholders in development of new technology applications, licensing of technology applications (inbound and outbound) and related intellectual property matters
  • Manage and coordinate certain IP maintenance and infringement matters with marketing team and outside counsel, including trademark analysis and registration matters
  • Advise and assist information technology and client service teams with software vendor audit inquiries
  • Advise on wide range of AI, data and privacy regulations relevant to a global accounting and professional services firm, including state data regulations (including CCPA/CPRA), CPA professional services data regulations, IRS 7216, HIPAA/HITECH, GLBA, GDPR, UK Data Protection Act, Canadian provincial data laws, cookie/tracking laws, CAN-SPAM, CASL, DORA
  • Support information security and risk management teams with maintaining information security industry frameworks and standards, including SOC2 compliance and ISO27001 certification
  • Advise on technology aspects of mergers, acquisitions and divestiture transactions
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to provide legal guidance with respect to technology strategy and new technology initiatives

Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

  • JD and member of any state bar in good standing
  • 8-12 years of relevant technology law experience with law firm or in-house experience
  • Superior work ethic and high-energy individual
  • Ability to balance legal risks with business objectives and propose strategic solutions
  • Positive attitude and willing to tackle wide range of routine to complex projects in a high-volume environment
  • Strong initiative and ability to work autonomously
  • Expertise in data protection and privacy regulations, including relevant US state laws, GLBA, UK Data Protection Act, GDPR and the like
  • Knowledge and understanding of AI related legal and governance requirements, and experience with integration of AI into work processes.
  • Excellent communication skills, must be articulate and possess critical thinking and writing skills
  • Ability to work effectively with internal clients, senior executives, and Firm personnel in multiple departments
  • Demonstrated success in influencing and engaging stakeholders, building collaborative relationships while managing conflicting priorities
  • Strong attention to detail, well organized, and able to manage numerous projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
  • Experience in the accounting services industry or professional services industry a plus, but not required
  • Experience with Canada/UK/India/El Salvador/EU law a plus but not required

At RSM, an employee's pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $240,900 - $456,000

Individualsselected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
