Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Lab Operations Manager.

In this role, the successful candidate The Manager, Research Laboratory Operations, is responsible for managing and supporting aspects of laboratory and researchfacilities operations in the NYULH research building portfolio as a member of the Office of Science & Research (OSR) ResearchLab Operations (RLO) team. In this capacity, shall be responsible for participating in infrastructure support for laboratoryoperations in all research laboratories and scientific core facilities as assigned by Research Laboratory Operations leadership,assisting with laboratory renovation, repair, and relocations for the buildings in the research building portfolio in collaborationwith Real Estate Development & Facilities, the Division of Advanced Research Technologies (DART) and the Office of Scienceand Research.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a OSR research operations liaison to department administrators, principal investigators, directors of research cores and laboratory staff in NYULH and/or tenant occupied buildings with research assets, to ensure that the infrastructure, organizational and collaborative needs of the NYULH research enterprise are met.
  • Biosafety Program assist with audit, inspection and compliance of laboratories with all relevant institutional biosafety policies, guidelines and SOPs in collaboration with Research Laboratory Operations leadership and Environmental Health &
  • Safety department. Assist with record keeping for the Regulated Medical Waste program.
  • Controlled Substance for Research Use Program assist with audit, inspection and compliance of all relevant institutional, state and federal policies, guidelines and SOPs. Track NYS and DEA licenses and ensure that all registrants remain fully compliant with renewals.
  • Research Resilience and Emergency Management SAFER and SOS team member; responsibility for research resilience kits for each building track and update inventory; conduct lab audits. Serve as building liaison to EM & ER and OSR Incident
  • Command Group during emergencies. Participate in EM & ER tabletop training exercises and facilitate communications to research laboratories during emergent situations.
  • Lab safety: Coordinate with Environmental Health & Safety, Radiation Safety and Campus Security to ensure that research laboratories meet Federal, State and Local regulatory requirement and relevant codes. Fire warden and/or Fire Life Safety
  • Team coordination. Assist with coordination of regulatory agency inspections - FDNY / EPA / OSHA / AAALAC Inspection in assigned buildings.
  • Faculty on- and off-boarding: Serve as on-site liaison Building operations: oversee maintenance and support for: OSR and departmental shared equipment, shared services, ultralow temperature freezer alarm system (ELPRO) and other duties as assigned by Assistant Director, Research Laboratory Operations & Research Emergency Management and Enterprise Resilience.
  • Coordinate research laboratory renovations and repairs and relocations with RED&F project management and facilities operations teams.
  • Support research space assignment mapping in research buildings and audit of existing assignment maps as needed.
  • Support capital equipment lifecycle tracking.
  • Serve as OSR point of contact to NYULMC Security for assigned buildings.
  • Coordinate with Materials Management for deliveries of research materials to the tenant occupied buildings in the research portfolio as needed.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports as needed
  • Report to Assistant Director, Research Laboratory Operations & Emergency Management and Enterprise Resilience

Additional Position Specific Responsibilities:

COMMUNICATION AND RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS 1. Excels in cooperation, collaboration and communicationwith all NYULH employees 2. May communicate directly with PIs and other scientists, coordinates delivery of results to
outside collaborators also. 3. Communicates carefully with others in order to respond appropriately, to answer questionsand obtains requested information. 4. Communicates ideas, problems, suggestions, and messages in a timely andeffective manner. 5. Maintains the confidentiality of all research information. JUDGEMENT / DECISION-MAKING 1. Is
able to recognize problems as they occur, and through the application of appropriate policy/procedure, determinesand/or recommends the appropriate solution. 2. Must be able to troubleshoot. 3. Seeks guidance as necessary for theperformance of duties; asks appropriate questions when in doubt and utilizes reference sources/materials to ensureaccuracy. 4. Advises appropriate personnel of situations/problems requiring intervention or follow-up attention.

Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify you must have a Bachelor of Science in Biology, chemistry or relevant science or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience. 3 to 5 years of laboratory and/or laboratory operations experience. Individual should have a familiarity with the capabilities, requirements, uses and physical conditions for active research laboratories. Should have excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact productively with leadership, faculty and staff to identify and resolve problems. Prior experience in building/facility support and management preferred. Excellent project management skills and extensive knowledge of facilities management, complex operating systems and equipment maintenance and techniques and processes. Strong communication skills and relationship/team building skills. Excellent judgement and reasoning ability enabling problem-solving and issue resolution, with a variety of options in varying situations. Ability to work independently, take initiative and make decisions with in-depth understanding. Responsible for setting and meeting department deadlines in alignment with research operations strategic and operational plans.

Preferred Qualifications:

MS, PhD or equivalent relevant degree including MBA and experience applicable to research laboratory operations management ; preferred research operations management experience in biotech, Pharma or academic research environment. Strong preference for individuals with experience working on major infrastructure projects and management of complex academic research portfolios. Must be able to work effectively and lead within matrixed program and project teams. Strong presentation and writing skills are a priority.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $97,589.95 - $110,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
