Role Objective

The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining and analyzing financial transactions, supporting audits and identifying opportunities for process improvement, while also ensuring compliance with internal controls and regulatory standards.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Period End: Support the month, quarter and year end process, including creating and posting journal entries, month end jobs and processes
  • Account Analysis and Reporting: Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts. Identify gaps or misstatements and propose correcting entries
  • Financial Transactions: Process financial transactions with accuracy and timeliness
  • Intercompany Analysis: Reconciling and correction of intercompany transactions
  • Cash Accounting: Initiate and reconcile cash postings, ensure accuracy and proper recording in cash accounts
  • Audit: Create, collect and coordinate information for outside auditors (annual audit, bank audits, etc.)
  • Financial Records and controls: Maintain and improve financial controls. Ensure financial transactions are accurate and timely
  • Compliance Monitoring: Ensure all transactions processed adhere to relevant financial regulations and standards
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of processes, procedures, and account transactions
  • Archive documents per record retention policy
  • Process Improvement: Identify process gaps and opportunities for improvement
  • Cross functional Collaboration: Collaborate with Finance, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and others
  • Training and Support: Serve as a backup to the Staff Accountant Sr. Provide training and support to others on processes and compliance requirements
  • Other ad hoc responsibilities as needed

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Business Administration/Finance or other related field required
  • Proficiency in spreadsheet and database software (e.g., Advanced Excel (Formulas/Pivots,etc) , Access, Dbase, etc.)
  • Entry level up to five (5) years' accounting work experience in corporate level accounting

Supervision/Coordination

  • Communicates with internal and external customers using oral, written, and electronic media
  • Internal contacts include Finance, Credit & Collections and Accounts Payable
  • External contacts include Customers, Freight Carriers, Regional Sales Managers, and Sales Reps
  • Works under the direct supervision of the Accounting Manager
