The Public Communication Specialist serves as a key liaison between Educational Outreach and the public, ensuring clear, consistent, and engaging messaging across all communication channels. This role is responsible for developing and executing strategic communication plans that enhance public understanding of the office's initiatives, services, and values.
The specialist will create marketing plan(s), planning and implementing media campaigns, evaluate target markets, and identifying target audiences. The specialist will also coordinate public outreach campaigns, and oversee digital content, including social media and website updates. They will collaborate with internal teams to ensure messaging aligns with organizational goals and maintains a positive public image and supports the office's mission.
Success in this role requires excellent writing and editing skills, a strong understanding of media and public relations, and the ability to communicate complex information in an accessible and compelling manner. |
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position |
The successful candidate will have:
- Experience using Adobe InDesign, Canva, Qualtrics, email marketing software, and web design software
- Experience writing and distributing press releases. Media contacts in the western North Carolina region are a plus.
- Experience managing social media platforms, including writing for various social platforms, developing paid and organic social campaigns, and responding to inquiries via social channels.
- Experience creating and implementing marketing strategies that create return on investment and the ability to recommend continuation or cancellation of strategies based on ROI.
- Experience developing graphics, templates, and signage that align with branding requirements.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills for both print and electronic media.
- The ability to manage multiple projects at any given time while working with multiple individuals both internal and external to the university.
- Current knowledge on marketing best practices and trends.
- The ability to collaborate in a team environment.

Minimum Qualifications |
Bachelor's degree in discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
