Job Summary

Under direct or indirect supervision of a Supervisor, Automotive Mechanic, or Senior Mechanic, performs minor service work and mechanical repairs on trucks, mobile equipment and passenger cars, i.e. dispenses fuel, lubricates, and keeps vehicles clean; inspects, repairs or replaces tires, inner tubes, wheels, rims and lock rings; tests, services and recharges or replaces batteries, anti-freeze, and motor oil, as needed. Whether working alone or with others, abides by established safety practices and has pre-job briefs or other appropriate communication tools utilized by those assigning work/tasks. Performs other related mechanical duties such as light mechanical repairs, replacing defective parts to repair vehicles and vehicle brake system adjustments and records daily work activities in designated tracking systems. Assists auto mechanic in performing vehicle brake system adjustments. Receives, verifies, sorts, stores, issues, and maintains proper inventory of parts and supplies for motorized equipment. Performs road service to Company vehicles when required. Drives Company cars and trucks to transport vehicles, pickup and deliver parts or to transport Company employees or guests.

Key Accountabilities
  • LUBRICATES and CHANGES oil on Company assets based on established schedule or when assigned following company standards or OEM specifications. CHANGES, MOUNTS, INSPECTS, REPAIRS tires as directed.
  • PERFORMS minor mechanical repairs to Company vehicles and other parts replacement, as assigned.
  • INSPECTS, TESTS, SERVICES, and RECHARGES batteries. CHECKS for loose terminals and DETERMINES whether battery should be repaired, recharged or scrapped.
  • RECEIVES, VERIFIES, SORTS, STORES and ISSUES/MAINTAINS identified inventory of DTE Fleet equipment parts and supplies.
  • DELIVERS parts to shop work areas and follows established procedures for receipting and inventory. Maintains location key inventory by conducting periodic inventory and adding/removing new vehicle and vehicle keys.
  • MAKES road service calls, changing tires or batteries, providing boosters and tows in disabled vehicles. DISENGAGES power take-off and other controls when moving trucks and other dual-purpose vehicles to avoid damage to transmission or other moving parts.
  • DRIVES Company vehicles to transport employees and guests as well as between company locations and authorized service agents. OPERATES booms, buckets and other truck mounted equipment to position as needed so that repairs can be made and/or vehicle can be safely transported.
  • Transports all new fleet equipment, classes 9-16, to garages and locations. Supports field operations such as delivering logos and vehicle numbering to vendors. Transports equipment to auction. Preps rentals for field deployment, assessing rentals for damage prior to return. Responsible for plate pick-up and delivery to garages, title retrievals for asset disposition, and part pick-up and delivery. Assists with reviewing new assets for completion of the in-servicing inspection process.
Qualifications
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Documented automotive experience (service, parts or high school automotive program) of 1-2 years.
  • Must meet Company driving standards.
  • This position requires a Class A CDL license with no restrictions (with the exception of: E-No manual transmission for CMV), or the candidate must obtain such license via a Temporary Instruction Permit (TIP) within the timeframe defined by Management, and is subject to all applicable DOT regulations and testing requirements.
  • Must take the Construction and Skilled Trades test (CAST) and attain a "Recommended" score (Exception: if you are an incumbent and/or changing location or have previously taken and passed the Construction and Skilled Trades test).
  • Satisfactory DOT physical examination.

Preferred

  • Able to understand written and oral instructions
  • Able to become proficient with company email systems and other Apps and programs utilized to manage and communicate within the fleet and the Company
  • Proficient in SRM application
